This came out on CSJ as if it is the teach-in,
rather than an organizing meeting. Only in the
fine print do readers learn the distinction.

Nov 9, 2015 - Teach-in/forum on privatization
When: Monday November 9th, 7pm
Where: Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) Annex, 720 Bathurst St. (meeting room 5 on the ground floor)

The Free Transit Toronto (FTTO) campaign and many other public transit activists (in TTCriders and elsewhere) are finding privatization an ongoing challenge. Whether by selling off state capacity to manage and organize a project or service to the private sector, moving entire services to private ownership and control, or P3’s, privatization has increasingly become how city, provincial and federal governments operate and mandate projects.

We at FTTO propose a one-day teach-in/forum on privatization to be held in January or another time early in 2016. We'd like to bring together different campaigns and issue-oriented movements that are fighting privatization, take the issue to the larger activist community in Toronto, and explore strategic ways of educating people and collectively challenging it. We will discuss privatization in broad, as well as specific terms; as a formal project of selling off public land and assets and organizing P3’s, as well as the creeping process of making public institutions mimic the logic of the market.
