I'm from Florida and am a Google app. dev. enthusiast. I was
attempting to organize a small Android dev. team here within Florida
Tech [www.fit.edu], when I came across the whole GTUG network. I'm
really interested in knowing if it would be possible to start one
here, and so far I think this would be the first one in Florida. I'm
willing to organize, and be a GTUG manager; hopefully I can get the CS
faculty onboard as well.

I'm interested in knowing more about GTUG meeting experiences from
other managers. What is the general purpose and agenda of the events
held?
Has anyone held coldelabs or hackathons? Could you share your
experience?

Hi Andy,

There's some resources that might be helpful:
http://wiki.gtugs.org/resources

The SV-GTUG usually holds events that are more lecture based:

But other common events are hackathons and lightning talks:
http://wiki.gtugs.org/resources/event-templates

The topics and agendas vary based on the demographics of the particular group, and the pool of expertise that can be tapped, but Wave events are pretty big right now (less lecture since there aren't many experts yet, and more communal hacking/learning), as well as Android development.

You may get more insights from other organizers in our manager's group -- if you're fairly certain you'd like to organize something, fill out the form and we'll get you added.
