Adding gt...@googlegroups.com into this thread so it will show up on the general GTUG group as well.

As discussed in another thread Van Riper and Kevin Nielson from the

provide a presence at I/O again this year.

As a group though perhaps we can assist with this by suggesting
workable ideas and contributing effort. Given that we provide a
community for developers at a local level, the bringing together of so
many groups from across the world is rather momentous.  This should be
celebrated and communicated in a way that invites people to
participate.

To facilitate, let's firstly collaborate ideas on a shared vision.
Here's what my thoughts were:
- Kiosk to sign-up Google I/O attendees to a local GTUG chapter

We can modify the app from last year to do a quick 'contact the organizer' for existing chapters.

Jason built the app many of you saw/used:

- A giant worldwide map for use in photo collage of each GTUG chapter
leader + attendees

I like the idea of doing a big physical map at the conference where people can actually pin up photos and such around the world. Maybe with a photo printer on hand.

I like the mix of low tech at a high tech conference :)

We can always set up another screen for a photo slideshow in the GTUG lounge area.

- Local GTUG badges for visibility of our members at I/O, networking
opportunities.  Perhaps a seperate QR code?

GTUG badge signifiers is already something I was thinking of -- probably a sticker or special lanyard.

Networking-wise, I'm not sure it makes sense to do separate networking just for GTUG members.

- Prompt companies featured in Community Sandbox to have a presence or
debrief at a future GTUG event

This is a good idea, though I believe many of the companies aren't really from diverse areas. It's probably easiest just to encourage GTUG organizers to spend time in the Sandbox and make connections with presenters in their area. A personal connection goes a long way -- much more than an email from Google encouraging them to speak at a local GTUG near them. Not sure if that was the implication of your suggestion or not.

- Listing of previous content and presentations contributed worlwide
(videos, slides, pictures)

Lastly, a very simple quick Android app to be developed in time for
Google I/O that we could distribute at the event itself.  This could
contain a brief about the organisation, where local chapters are, how
to sign-up, some sample presentations and content, or the calendar of
events. Being I/O specific it could have meeting times, events or a
signup feature so that we can patrol and enlist developers to continue
their learnings at a local level.

We know that last year @ I/O we all received ION phones and who knows
what phones might be around this year *cough* but that aside it is
likely nonetheless Androids will be around.  And given the focus on
enterprise and Android this year it would be good timing and show the
appropriateness of the technology.

This sounds like a great project for you guys to take on :) I'm highly supportive!

Remembering these need to be realistic and we should contribute effort
together, what's your thoughts? :)

Cheers
Leon
