Hello everybody,

I thought I have a question to Android experts that are reading this
forum.
Why do you think there are no official Android x86 ports?
There's an android-x86.org project run by some guys but I would *much*
prefer if Google were doing it.

If there were official images people could use to install Android on
their netbooks and laptops - wouldn't
it be better for Android adoption? And this is something entirely else
than running it in simulator.

The way I see it, MeeGo is a more mature netbooks platform, with Intel
and Nokia behind the efforts.
There's only one problem - it is not Android :(

So .. how come nobody's really interested in x86 ports?

I'm sure that android for X86 will be more popular with GoogleTV coming out, but googles netbook OS is chrome OS for all I know.

I'm actually planning to purchase Asus 1201N and would like to install Android there by myself.
It just surprises me Google has no interest in providing free Android setups for people to install whenever they want.
There should be some reason that I don't see it right now ..

Thanks for the links!

Cool, tell me how it goes.
Anyway, like I said before, currently Google is targeting android for
other devices, so an x86 port is no a part of AOSP or something like
that, but ports are available. since Google TV is running with Android
on Intel chips, I guess some X86 build will come from google as well.

good luck with the 1201N

Intel will ship a fully native x86 version of Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ to developers in the next two months to spur growth of Atom-powered Android netbooks and slates.
