Hi everyone!

If you haven't noticed Google is changing their policies around accessing the SMS and Phone features from an app. The change takes effect on the 9th of January unless you make changes to your app or apply for an extension then the app might not be available on the Play Store.

We send an emergency SMS through our app, and have applied for an extension and or an exception in our case. However as there is only two days left we're getting a bit anxious as we're lacking a non-automated reply from Google.

Is anyone else having any issues with the policy changes?

Kind regards

Hi!

Yes! :(
And as far as I can see, the policy seems to (?) already taken some effect on my recently updated and published version of my app as well. Apparently the call log permission is not handled at all for other users downloading my app - it's not even visible in the system app info dialog. But for me it's working as it should - having downloaded it from Google Play just like everyone else. I have no idea what's happening...

I have also already applied for an extension and exception , but have not received any follow up or feedback at all from Google yet.

Best regards
Daniel

I was approached about a month ago by a person from a company in a similar situation, and I tried to see if there was any way I could help.
I asked several different people inside google and the story was always the same - there is no way to contact the team making the decisions directly, by policy, so the only way to be approved or declined is through the online form. They advised against re-applying too, as that would put the company at the end of the list immediately.
This is not very constructive, I'm afraid, but at least you are very much not alone in not getting feedback (yet).

Cheers;
