Hi guys,

I'm interested in developing Android applications. I plan to get an
Android phone as well. On top of my head, i'm thinking of HTC Hero.
What do you guys think about it? Is it suitable for development? How
about the Nexus One? However, i think Nexus One is not available for
order in Msia yet?

Also, I've been developing JavaME/J2ME apps for the last few years.
Can i still install and run JavaME/J2ME applications on Android? I
found this website - http://www.netmite.com/android/ Has anyone tried
or experienced it before?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Roger,

Android development is different from J2ME. Application life-cycle, gui, API, everything's different. Never tried netmite before (I'm no J2ME developer).

About the phone, it really depends on what you wanna do with it. IMHO, the phones are nice-to-have for development work. They don't necessarily influence development much. I'll still say you should have one to write Android stuff - both to eat your own dog food and also to experience other people's dog food.

Grab the sdk and emulator from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html and start working/testing. At least that'll get you familiar with Android before committing on a phone. Don't need a phone to start developing.

On the other hand, don't need to start developing to start grabbing a Nexus One, but this is gtug after all.

Thanks for your inputs guys. I've downloaded the sdk sometime ago and write some very simple app.
Hmm, yeah, i think i should really do some development using the sdk first, prior to committing to a phone.

Reason I ask if it supports J2ME is because, i'm currently developing the a J2ME app. I'm planning to get a new phone. Therefore, it would be really good, if Android supports it. So that, i can deploy it on Android and after that, i can write Android apps as well - which interests me a lot lately.

Hi, I have just tested it out. I can run a J2me app (Opera Mini 5 beta
2) on HTC Hero. I have downloaded the Opera Mini into my SDCard
through the default browser, from http://m.opera.com. In the
application launcher, there is an application called Java. Upon
launching it, it allows me to launch the Opera Mini.
