Hi Alec

I have now successfully implemented GTrack with my hardwired units and
have some 200+ units running on my site. Thanks for a great software,
I have been in this industry for some 20 years now and this is the
easiest user software for Track and Trace I have ever seen.

Alec I have a quick question on Master and Child users. I have been
able to succesfully establish a number of Master Users on the site and
they are capable of seeing their data without issue. I however have
found a problem with things like POI's, I have copied across some 6000
POI's from my own app, and want to share them with all my users, they
are however linked to a master user. My question is how do I make
master users into child users, so as to share vehicles and POI's.

Regards
Derek

Hi Derek,

Many thanks for the feedback, it makes it all worthwhile when I hear
stories like yours :-)

You raise a good point about POI's and I had thought about making a
'share' system once but like most things it got put on hold due to
'paid work'...

The share system I thought about wasn't for POI's tho, it was for
geoFence's, so people would not have to keep drawing geoFence's around
things...

You would make a geoFence like around the London Congestion Zone and
save it, or share it... Give it a name so it could be easily
identified and then select it from a drop down menu to use again/share
with other people.

The same could be done for POI's tho if you see my point. :-)

There's a lot of work yet to be done on gtrack and time is not on my
side here, I was hoping others would help in coding but it didn't
happen, maybe it will one day once it gets known a bit more.

For the moment I can't really say if I'll be able to spend much time
on this, but if anyone else can code such a thing it won't be too hard
to do...

Make a new table in the database, call it share_poi or something, then
write a function that either searches for some 'user input' from a
form, which displays the results in a drop down menu to select, which
then adds that POI to the normal POI system there is at the moment.
This way each 'master' has the option to search the share_poi list and
they can add any of the POI's in the share list as they require it.

I'll think about it more over the weekend, maybe there is another way
too... Its always best to think these things thro as much as possible
before even starting any work/code on it, as you always tend to think
of other things after starting the code which means starting again on
the code... if that makes sense!

I'm also quite interested in learning about the hard-wired units you
say you have managed to make update to gtrack, can you share this
information with me?

:-)

Hi Alec

Thanks for the feedback, I am going to have a bash at looking to implement
the POI's in the format you have suggested, I will also have a look over the
weekend on how this can be done. I am also trying to think of a way to
implement sub users, but will try and get my head around this.

Alec we have the best Hardwired unit currently available in the world, and I
am sure you have heard this a million times. My partner is based in Belgium,
Kevin Stanton, who does all the firmware and server implementation of the
units, between us we have over 40 years of tracking experience, having built
the second largest tracking company in the world www.digicore.co.za. The
reason I am so adamant on our hardware is the following:

1: Vehicle Tracking hardware is becoming a commodity, our units we are now
selling for around 99 pounds, and if necessary we can go below this level.
2; we have a number of very involved algorithms in our software to determine
from traffic jam status through to fuel consumption and fuel level.
3: through effective use of on board watch dogs, we have a 0% down time to
date, and a 0% hardware failure on our new units. Given of course we only
have around 500 implemented around the world.
4: Since we are working directly with the developer and manufacturer, we
have the unit built in China on contract, we can change anything from
firmware, http protocol, etc literally overnight.

I have enclosed a unit spec for your perusal, this is for the full fleet
management option, we have a new unit which is half this size, and about 15%
cheaper, as well as a great personal tracking unit which we will launch in
February, this is the size of a car remote control, please peruse the spec,
and we would welcome a discussion which could have possible financial
benefit for all of us.

Again thanks for a great platform.

Regards
Derek
