I need to ship a set of pottery dishes from Canada to friends in Guanajuato. Does anyone have experience with — or advice about — shipping breakable items? In a perfect world, someone in Ontario would be driving down with space in their car...

Yes, this group still exists but is rarely used now.
Sounds as though your friends want to carry coals to Newcastle! Maybe Fed Ex? It operates here.
