Dear Mr Petropoulos.
How I can participate at GTOCG?

Name: Jhonny O. Pérez Alviarez

Psychologist, MSc. Politics and managment of technological innovation. Central University of Venezuela.

Research foci: Cultural approaches to human exo-space activities, planning in uncertain sociotechnological contexts, sociohistorical approaches to maneuverability into the unknown and experiences discoveries.

I would really like to participate in this interesting and promising experience.

Thanks.

Dear Petropoulos:
I'll wait the problem statement of GTOC6.
With the group of selected researchers can investigate its proposed solutions, in order to compile the rationality with which these are considered correct.
It also seems appropriate to look to detect a kind of "inventory of possible uncertain" from the participating researchers.
In any case, JPL is the institution responsible for this sixth edition of GTOC and has the last word on the appropriateness of allowing research like the one I propose.
Thank you for your kind response.

Dear Dr Petropoulos and GTOC participants,

I was looking forward to the announcement of this GTOC6, having participated to the past 4 competitions with lots of enthusiasm.

However, I sadly noticed that the timing of this year’s competition is quite bad for me: it overlaps with the International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2012) in Naples, which I have submitted papers to, and I plan to attend. The conference (1-5 Oct) is during the last week of the competition, being days before the conference busy to prepare the papers and the presentations.

With this in mind, it’s very hard for me this year to find the time and the commitment that every GTOC requires!

Best Regards

Matteo

What about a satellite "quick section" which gives only 2 weeks
for working? So, this side group might have

* 24 Sept 2012, 20:00 GMT: Deadline for Quick Section Submissions

Of course, also these solutions should be made public only after
the end of the long section.

Ingo.

Dear Matteo and GTOC google group members,

Yes, unfortunately the timing was a little constrained this year. If
there indeed turns out to be a large majority of regularly
participating teams that would prefer not to have the competition as
currently scheduled, then indeed we should contemplate another date
(where hopefully fewer teams would be impacted). However, we do in
fact already have 7 teams registered. I am not sure that Ingo's idea
of a "subset" competition, with results due after two weeks, would
work out, even though it is an innovative suggestion! The IAC
preparations would still hinder participation and splitting the
rankings would create and uncomfortable dichotomy.

Dear Anastassios,

I understand it may be very difficult to organise the GTOC and please everybody.
From my side, we would have the same problem as Dr. Matteo Ceriotti was mentioning, as everybody at the University of Southampton will be away for the IAC 2012 on the last week of the competition. So I am afraid the timing of GTOC6 is a little constrained for me too.
However, it would be a real pity to miss it after having participated with the "Glasgow team" to all the last five editions.

Kindest Regards

Camilla

Dear Camilla,

I appreciate the difficulties posed by the timing, and it is indeed a
loss not to have the participation of your team and Matteo's team. We
have 16 teams registered to date, and in total three expressions of
misgivings about the timing (one of these will, however, likely end up
participating). At this point, I believe the best course is to stick
with the dates we have. I do hope that somehow you will find a way to
combine IAC and GTOC activites.

Dear fellow GTOC researchers,

This is just a reminder that the start of the 8th edition of the competition is drawing very near and that if you have not registered yet, now would be a good time to do so.  I am attaching again the announcement sent previously.  Again, I would welcome your sharing the announcement with other researchers beyond the google group you believe would be interested in participating.

Looking forward to your participation.

With best wishes,

-anastassios petropoulos
