to Game Tester
There are many people being paid hundreds of dollars just to test
video games, and give their opinions about them. Surprisingly you
don't need any special qualifications to be a game tester, just a love
of playing video games, a console to play them on, your gaming skills
and you are all set to be a paid video games tester.
It is not an easy task finding these paid game tester positions. There
are a lot of people searching for this dream and some may say mythical
job. However positions do exist. If you know someone who works for a
video game company you can always ask them to keep you informed of
testing jobs that may be advertised internally, but assuming you don't
have any contacts, the best advice is to keep checking all the company
websites especially for your favorite games, apply for any game
testing jobs you see, and send e-mails to the website asking to be
kept informed or considered for any game testing jobs. It's a numbers
game the more you send the more chance you have of success.
Ask yourself why you should be given a testers job. The answer is
usually your experience and skill playing games on your chosen
console. To prove this skill to your potential employer, and to get
noticed and recognized as an expert will take time, but to help you
should do the following things, join and take an active part in gamers
forums, post game reviews online or in your own free blog for your
favorite games. Enter online gaming tournaments. In time your name
will become known as an expert, and will help you in getting that game
tester job.
Once you get hired to test video games what can you expect. As a home
video game tester you will be sent games to test through the mail,
each one will come with a specific assignment, and a sheet or report
to fill out. These assignments will cover such things as game play,
bugs or errors you may find, whether you like or dislike certain
aspects of the game etc. Each will be different so make sure you know
what is expected of you.
When you have completed the assignment, you will usually return it and
the copy of the game to the company, and assuming you have completed
it satisfactorily you will get paid at this point.
