I've already posted in GTFS-changes, but in this post I'll try to match the conventions in Brian's doc.

Sydney, Australia
  • http://www.131500.com.au/tickets/fares/sydney-buses
  • children under 4 travel free
  • additional station access fee for persons using airport rail stations
  • special "link tickets" exist for specific route combinations, eg: train to Bondi Junction, bus to Bondi Beach
  • MyMulti
    • unlimited trips on buses, trains, light rail, ferries of multiple agencies in Sydney & Newcastle
    • Adult fare: Weekly, Monthly (28 days until 4am), Quarterly (90 days until 4am), Yearly (365 days)
    • Concession fare: Weekly only
    • MyMulti 1, MyMulti 2, My Multi 3
    • tickets are transferrable
  • MyTrain
    • single trip or 7 days, 14 days, monthly (28 days), quarterly (90 days) or yearly pass
    • ticket office or vending machine
    • point-to-point distance - 0-10km, 10-20km, 20-35km, 65km+
  • MyBus
    • MyBus1 (1-2 sections), MyBus2 (3-5 sections) MyBus3 (6+ sections).
      • Validation of MyBus1 together with MyBus2 will also allow 6+ sections
    • Single - valid for single leg/trip on the day issued/validated on the bus
    • TravelTen - cheaper than 10 singles, no expiry date, tickets are transferrable. Purchase at train station or retail outlet
  • MyFerry
    • MyFerry1 (0-9km), MyFerry2 (9km+)
    • Single
    • TravelTen
  • Pensioner Excursion Ticket (PET)
    • valid on day of use
    • unlimited trips on buses, trains, light rail, ferries of multiple agencies in Sydney & Newcastle
  • Family Funday Sunday
    • all day travel on a Sunday
    • group must be related and include at least one child (under 16 or school student 16-18) and one adult
    • purchase at train station, vending machine, ferry or bus driver
  • ZooPass - fixed fare for specific bus/ferry routes
As discussed in the GTFS-changes post, Sydney bus fares are rather complicated and do not fit into the current GTFS schema.  There are 3 levels of payment - 1-2 sections, 3-5 sections and 6+ sections.  The sections (which are each roughly 1.6km along each route shape) are determined separately for each route variant and in GTFS could potentially be documented/associated by trip_id or shape_id.

Newcastle, Australia
  • MyMulti, PET and Family Funday Sunday tickets as per Sydney
  • Adult or concession fare
  • 1-Hour & 4-Hour tickets for multiple rides on buses
  • 23-Hour tickets for multiple rides on buses & ferries
  • TimeTen Multi Ride - multiple bus trips within the hour - 10 trips
  • Newcastle Orange TravelPass - unlimited travel on buses & ferry
  • Newcastle Green TravelPass - unlimited travel on buses, ferry & train
  • Newcastle Ferry - single fare

Consuming applications could store information in a user's profile regarding the types of ticket(s) the user has, and when they purchased them.  Eg, I may have a weekly/monthly MyTrain pass and a TravelTen bus pass (which has no expiry).  The revised GTFS spec should allow the consuming applications to map the type of ticket(s) held by the user to the various fare options.

Brisbane & SE Queensland have a simple zone system, but the fares vary depending on whether you have an NFC card or need to buy a paper ticket.
