Hey everyone,

I wanted to do a status check on our progress.  If you'll recall in the intro email to the group, our plan of attack is:

1) Identify strange fare systems of the world.
2) Figure out how to update the spec to support as many fare systems as possible.
3) Profit.

We are still in phase 1 and while I'll admit that I haven't been contributing too much to the process ;) we do have some progress to show.  Recall that I started a Google doc of fare systems of the world:

I've added a number of entries to the doc, mostly focusing on the largest agencies in North America to see if there are any big agencies that we can't model with GTFS.

I think we are still probably missing some transit systems that we'd like to model.  If you know of any good examples of fare systems that GTFS can't handle, please note them in the doc!

If we can get just a few more documented, I think we can start having discussions about ideas for updating the spec.

Thanks,
Brian

I added a bit about a few systems, but we really need someone who reads
Japanese to figure that system out.

I also found a few more complications, which I added to the list.

I think we can divide features into two categories: those that can be
modeled without going insane and systems that get downright Lovecraftian
in a hurry. I've marked up the doc with the three dangerous sections
(in my view). Of those, inter-agency transfers are the only one I
consider mandatory.

I now believe we have covered most of the interesting features, and I am
prepared to start talking about modeling any time.
