Glad you asked! While we recognize the benefits of reading throughout the summer and there may be prizes for those who do, I hope that your daughter will read a variety of literature for her personal benefit. Summer reading/assignments are  NOT required for the GT Academy students. You may share this information with her friends or anyone else who might be attending the GT Academy.

Ms. Gigee,

I got an out of office reply from Mr. Jones, so I was hoping you might be able to answer my questions.  Thanks.

Mr. Jones,

My daughter will be in 7th grade and attending the GT Academy.  I found out by accident tonight that there is a summer reading list and project.  I emailed the librarian for the username and password as the letter I found online stated I should.  I am emailing you because I am wondering if this applies to the GT academy as well and if so, what else don't we know?  Are there any other assignments or expectations of them this summer?  I don't have a problem with the requirement at all and I think it is good that they are responsible for work during the summer.  My students have an assignment as well!  I just don't want her stressing out over it and then her find out when school starts that she didn't have to do it.  Either way, it would not be a "waste" of her time.  However, she is very intrinsically motivated and way too many times in middle school she busted her backside to get things done perfectly by the deadline only to have that deadline lifted or adjusted and that is very frustrating.  Any insight would be appreciated!  Thank you.
