Hi all,

Since PISD started online student registration through Skyward today
it included registering our children for bus service. I called
transportation to see what I could find out had been decided for the
GTA students, whether direct bussing, hub, etc. The person that I
spoke with said that the PISD transportation dept just received all of
the electronic student data for the GTA last Thursday, so no bus
routes have been formulated at this time. She said that they were
shooting for August 8th rather than August 1st and that this
information should be available online. Thought other parents would be
interested to know this.

All,

I am on the website, looking at the Parents Steps for on-line Enrollment in "Word" format. Is this only confusing to me, or is there something wrong? I have attached.

Once you actually log into Skyward it's a lot more self-explanatory than that Word doc. You look at 8 web-based documents, change or add info if needed, sign at bottom for most and submit all when done. It is the same forms as the past several years, just an electronic version.

I verified my son's name on the bus route last week (bus #137, pickup 8:05) but no bus showed up this morning. Did anyone else have a similar/better experience? I'm going to call the Trans. Dept and plan to be home for drop-off to talk to the driver (Ben has his phone if drop-off's a problem) but was wondering what others' experiences were.

Thanks,
Jessica

We dropped off our son this morning, but hopefully #164 will be bringing him home this afternoon!  Of course he has his phone if any problems, and I’m pretty close by if he needs a ride.  I don’t know if #164 picked up this morning or not because he wasn’t out there.

Bus 137 was to have picked up my son at 7:40 and arrived  at 8:05. The bus driver said it was due to traffic. (Like they couldn't have already anticipated that). She told us our expected pickup time tomorrow should be 7:48.

My children are on the same bus 137. It was running today because of added traffic caused by parents taking their children to school.

I know by 7:56 the bus had not arrived, but according to the woman at the bus department with whom I spoke, it was scheduled for pick up at 7:47 (I was previously told pick up was 7:35). My ex was with the kids after finishing her night shift, so I don't know if she waited for the bus or ended up taking them.

Bottom line, the bus did run its route. The first day is always hectic for a variety of reasons. Personally, I like my kids to ride the bus the first day or school to get to know the driver asap and vice versa, especially since mine are the only two to be picked from that particular stop.

I'm sure they have a few bugs to work out, especially since it's a new route. I trust tomorrow will be better.

Wow! That's David's bus but we drove today. I saw 137 going into Southfield at 7:40.

Thanks, Craig.

Maybe we left before it got to us then since his scheduled pickup time is 8:05. Around 8:20 I decided I should drop him off and left the house.

I take the tollway west for work so had no idea the traffic on 518 and around Sab (esp. with another school next to it) was so bad. But seems the Trans Dept definitely should have anticipated that.

The busses are usually always running a bit behind the first week or two and then hit the scheduled time sometime during the second week. We dropped off this morning, too, but with all that traffic Caroline will be riding bus 137 tomorrow!

It's almost a catch 22. Parents create the traffic by taking their kids to school the first day in part to avoid the late running buses.

Based on my experiences in the past I agree with Denee. I think you'll see a big improvement tomorrow.

I remember a similar delay when Massey Ranch started its first year and the district offered busing for a fee to those outside the zoned area.

The assistant superintendent of transportation is on top of these things. He'll make sure it gets worked out. If you have concerns or continuing problems, give him a call. I have always found him to be very reasonable and receptive.

The bus did show up, eventually.  It was about 15-minutes late and I was close to giving up and driving Ashish and Aayush to school.  -Samir Dave

Thanks for the quick and informative responses!

I feel better knowing it was just running late (not -not- running at all). Totally understand that first day for a new program may have delays; the 8:05 pick-up was so late already I was concerned about waiting too long before dropping him off. I'm sure tomorrow will be better!

All,

If you continue to have issues with the transportation, I have spoken to Ms. Bini at Ace After School.
She is taking my 5th Grade son Noel to school in the morning and is in the After School Program. She has agreed to accept children interested in the Morning Dropoff even if they are not in the After School Program.

Her contact number is 713-436-5125. Miller Ranch Road.
