Alberto was accurate in pointing out that both "Test" and "Quality" are tainted terms on the development world. It's unfortunate, and up until now, I have been crusading to fix that, but perhaps he is right that we should simply re-brand. So, was that done during GTAC this year?

The only thought I had was something that emphasized that we write software (and advocate process) to improve the experience of writing software. "Meta" seems to fit here, which led me to

software meta engineer
meta software engineer

(Because explaining what I do in Test Automation was already so easy)

I don't really like either of those, but they're what I got so far. :)

I didn't take it as a challenge to re-brand test automation; I took it
as a challenge to rebrand test and quality.

For the past couple of years, I've been referring to myself as either
a "Consulting Software Tester" or a "Software Process Naturalist."

I'm more comfortable, and I prefer, the naturalist term, but there
doesn't seem to be much market for it ...

... YET!
