approximately 333 candidates on the market!!!!!

Well feck my life!  Better question...did you figure out how many are micro versus macro because if there are a lot of macro fields we may be OK.  Did you count them all individually?

Talking about the advantage/disadvantage of a phd. in economics vs a phd. in finance, a professor of Finance once told me that the only problem with economists is that "they don't know anything about supply and demand".

Perhaps he was somehow right.

Good luck guys and do not get discourage before the fight!

Hope this doesn't matter, but I just noticed that the copy protection
on our official transcripts--the text that shows up when you photocopy
them--says:

GEORGIA STATE UNIVERISTY

It repeats vertically, so that "university" is misspelled 10 times on
each page of our transcripts. ugh, right? Who should I contact? Any
ideas?

I would assume, Bess. She will take care of it.

Jason, I have been sending my copy from GOSOLAR and so far all the universities are kewl with it.  I would definitely contact the registrar to fix it.  I imagine that it is not a printing issue but a paper problem if it is the water mark that shows up.

FYI you guys probably already know this, but here is ASSA registration
information information from the horses mouth:

Dear Daniel Hall:

Yes, to enter the job candidate interview tables, you must have a
badge. The
registration for non-AEA members is $75.00, for AEA members the
registration
is $60.00. It's up to you to decide whether you want to become an AEA
member. To determine the AEA membership fee, you can email
aea...@vanderbilt.edu
for that inquiry. You do not have to be an AEA member to participate
in
the job placement services.

Thank you,
Julia Merry

By the way the registration fee goes up to $125.00 after December
1st!!!!

Dan,

So what of the $35 I paid before? Do we need a badge that specifically says 'job market candidate'?

I think we're all set having paid the $35, which was the student reg
fee at least when I registered. If anybody knows different definitely
chime in, but I think this is correct.

I am pretty sure we don't need a special badge saying "JM
Candidate"--I didn't see this at the other ASSA I attended. Plus, I
think the desperate and terrified looks on our faces will identify
us... :)

I'm sorry for freaking you guys out. It is $35 for full-time
students. I think the person I contacted already thought I had a
Ph.D. and was no longer a student.

Here is the reply I got from her after clarifying:

If you have a full time Student ID, you can register as a student.
Otherwise, select the $75.00 registration.

Again my apologies. Holy crap it is getting close to J-Day...

FYI...IMPORTANT.  Job Market Candidates, please check your international schools or think tanks that you may be applying to. Some of them have deadlines that are local time to them and NOT the US!  This can make a deadline change by up to a day earlier.  Sorry to have to include time zones but some of the places are noting that they are due local time.

Okay -- just to clarify:

*It's $35 to join AEA as a student, and that does or does not get you in free to the meetings?  (Is it another $35 to register for the conference?)

Thanks,
Erin

Isn't it suppose to be the role of "Advisers", to advise students in situations like this?

I don't think this is what advisors are for. This sort of logistic
stuff we ought to be able to work out on our own. Advisors help us
with our research and with bigger career questions.

It doesn't look like you're _required_ to get an AEA membership before
signing up for the conference as a student. On the other hand, in
general, it's a good thing to be a member of AEA anyway. Student
memberships are now $32, according to the AEA website.

Erin,
Contact the AEA to make sure. I paid the $35 and included the ASSA meeting registration on the AEA's website. I am not aware of further payments if you are a student member of the AEA to attend the job market events.
