About the Samuels Center
The Sarah Samuels Center for Public Health Research & Evaluation (Samuels Center) is a consulting firm in Oakland, CA specializing in public health evaluation and research. Created in 1994, we consult with foundations, health departments, school districts, community-based organizations and other clients. We focus our efforts on health promotion and disease prevention initiatives, particularly those that involve policy, environmental and systems change which aim to reduce health disparities in low resource communities. Specific areas of staff expertise and project involvement span nutrition and physical activity, prevention of chronic disease, women's health, community health, preventive care, and ethical and policy issues in public health.
 
About the Associate Position
The incumbent participates in a leadership role in activities related to maintaining the Samuels Center infrastructure and organizational strategic planning. This is a 100% position based in the Oakland office.  The Associate position is a high level leadership position, in which the incumbent participates in all aspects of research – identification and participation in grant writing, tool development, data collection and analyses, writing of reports including manuscripts, and oral presentation of findings to clients and at professional meetings.  As project manager on designated research projects, the Associate manages day to day operations of research activities, including maintaining regular communication with clients, external partners/team members and supervising staff. In state and out of state travel required. Start date is immediately upon hire.
 
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have at least 8 years of experience in public health-related work with demonstrated leadership experience, a Master’s degree in public health or related field or higher, skilled in qualitative and/or quantitative data methodology, and has strong verbal and written communication skills.  Familiarity with issues related to food, nutrition and physical activity and local policy and state legislative processes is desired. This is an exceptional opportunity for public health researcher interested in working in policy and environmental level change in low resource communities.
 
Compensation and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience, educational background, and qualifications.  The Samuels Center has a generous benefit package including medical, vision and dental insurance and 401K benefits.
