Dear All,
I directly emailed evaluating mentors a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get much response, so I'm emailing here too to make sure people are aware! Please get back to me this week if your mentee is interested in presenting at useR! in-person/virtual events.
useR!
2025 have offered us a regular talk slot at the in-person conference to
present about R GSoC projects (~20 min). Hanxia Li (Michael and Gabe's mentee) is available
to talk about their chatR project, but we wondered if any other mentees
would be at useR! and would like to give a joint talk with Hanxia.
There is also the opportunity for any GSoC mentee to present their project in a lightning talk as part of the virtual event on Friday 1 August.
E:
Is your mentee interested and available for an in-person talk? (yes/no)
- they must be able to get themselves there, i.e. have financial
support and good probability of getting a visa if required
F:
Is your mentee interested and available for a virtual lightning talk?
(yes/no) - respond "no" if answered "yes" to E. They will need to pre-record a video of their talk (virtual event is free and on August 1)
G: Mentors at useR! (names of any mentors that will be at useR! in person)
H: Note - optional space to add further comment
We
suspect that only 2 or 3 mentees will be there in person, if there are
many that can come, we might explore other options, e.g. contributed
posters.
In
addition, the R Contribution Working Group would like to invite you and
your mentees to our July / August meetings, to give an opportunity to
meet each other and informally share a small update on your project.
Hopefully one of those times will suit!
Please respond on the spreadsheet before June 23 to be considered for the useR! program.
Best wishes,
Heather
