Google Summer of Code

Thank you for being a vital part of the GSoC 2021 program. We realize this has been another challenging year for everyone, thank you all for your commitment to your students and your communities.

In about a week and a half, students will begin submitting their Final Evaluations and work products for GSoC 2021 (starting Monday, August 16). We have encouraged students to reach out to you to share a preview of their submission URL and let you verify it meets Google's and your requirements before they submit later this month. Students can not edit their evaluations once they have submitted them — it's in their best interest to have you review the link first. FYI, students must submit their Final Evaluations (with the submission URL) on their Google dashboard before Monday, August 23 at 18:00 UTC.

Mentor Final Evaluations (of students) Start Monday, August 23rd at 18:01 UTC
Mentors are responsible for validating the target of the URL (provided in the evaluation), making sure it points to the GSoC 2021 work product, and meets the other requirements. Mentors will use this information as part of their pass/fail decision. The deadline for Mentors to submit Final Evaluations is Monday, August 30 at 18:00 UTC.

You can preview the final evaluation questions here.

Tips for communicating with your Student these last couple of weeks

It is very important to keep communicating with your students and encourage them to remain involved with your community. The orgs that have been most successful in keeping their GSoC students as long term contributors to their project have encouraged their students to become maintainers on their projects and make it clear they have ownership of a particular area of the project. Encourage the students to stay invested in the work they have done over the GSoC period.

Be sure to read the Mentor Guide section on Building a Lifetime Contributor for more tips.
