Hey all, I noticed that the new GSOC 22 guidelines/FAQ have been posted, and they have changed "students" to "contributors" so there is no longer a requirement about students being enrolled in university. instead the analogous requirement is that the contributor must be an open-source beginner (which I guess is our responsibility as mentors/admins to verify). https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/faq#what_are_the_eligibility_requirements_for_participation
There is still the rule that a contributor can only participate in at most 2 GSOCs. The official wording is: You have not been accepted as a GSoC Student in GSoC more than once. (Only GSoC Students from 2020 or 2021 are eligible to apply a second time in 2022.)

Also new is that there are two different project sizes, "Medium size projects should take about 175 hours to complete while large projects should take about 350 hours to complete." Stipend amounts now depend on project size, for example $3000 for medium and $6000 for large for contributors in USA. https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/help/student-stipends#total_stipend_amount

Clicking on eligibility requirements link shows this:

——-

I attend a community college (or a junior college) can I still participate?

Yes, we hope you do! You just need to show the proof of enrollment in your college program.

——-

Which looks like there is still a student requirement.

Hi Jeff thanks for sharing. The two FAQ entries seem to contradict one another so I asked on https://groups.google.com/g/google-summer-of-code-discuss whether or not proof of college enrollment will be required of students in 2022.

Stephanie has clarified: " Folks will not be submitting proof of enrollment forms this year. "
