Hello everyone,

Thanks to Sabina, we have managed to book E33.3 in ETH Zürich's Hauptgebäude.
The booking is for 11th December, from 7 - 9 pm.

Now we need a few things done before the talk actually happens!

I've started working on the presentation, taking into account the
feedback you all provided.

Please do take a look at the general structure, and add in any details
as you see fit. You should all have edit access.

You can find the presentation here: http://goo.gl/QMhU9d

Any help would be appreciated!

Best,
Wookie

Hello folks,

Thanks for organising this. Here is some quick feedback:

* I feel you have too many slides that talk about GSoC itself. Most details people can read directy on the GSoC website.
* The student GSoC stories ought to be the highlight in my opinion... ofcourse, I presume the speakers will talk about it in person. But, having slides that illustrate "prior hesistation to joining... will I be able to do this?", "how did my mentor support me?" "what did I not anticipate", etc.
* If you  are willing, I would be happy to add a couple of slides from my own project/experience.

Thanks again

hey Seon, in general very nice work. here is my two cents:

As Imran suggested, I have also the feeling that there are too many slides.
Can you squeeze the presentation down to 10 min?

Highlight should be given to the showcase presentation, where we can include also more personal experiences.
I guess 1-2 slides per project is more than enough.

For the rest, I have the feeling this parts are still missing:
* different perspectives (there are some people here that have been mentor and can give some perspective on the GSOC followup for instance, or people that have done multiple GSOC).
* I would love to see also some live demo if there are projects in which that would be possible...

Hi Seon,

Congratulations about the organizing and the presentation, the slides you have prepared are very good.
My 2 cents:
I agree it should be more about the experience of the participants not about the facts of gsoc, also a demo wouldn't be bad, perhaps you can demonstrate your work for this gsoc.
Also, maybe a good Idea would be to add some tips from you and the people who will deliver the presentation in the slides : like how to prepare for that, what you think that is needed to know before hand, things that you were completely wrong about e.t.c.

For example it's a common misconception that you will have time for vacation and maybe study for the university which is not true as gsoc should be considered a (beyond) full time job.

Hello everyone,

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

To summarise the feedback: Focus more on testimonials and general feedback.

The reason I spent most of the slides for the description of GSoC is
because I wasn't sure how aware of GSoC people are. I thought that it
might be better to give reasons ("Why GSoC") more directly in a
traditional structure.

Now that I have seen your e-mails, I do agree that it may be more
relatable and effective to focus on presenting our own experiences.

This is what I'd like to suggest:
a) Ask the following questions:
- How aware of GSoC were your university peers? Did they have a
general idea? Or did you have to tell them about it?

b) Urge you to add in your own slides if you wish to speak.
- There's a section called "What is it like to be part of GSoC?" where
I've added in some mock/blank slides.
- If you would like to speak, please do mark your intention by adding slide(s)!
The slides are at http://goo.gl/QMhU9d and you should all have edit rights.

Thanks again!

Best,
Wookie / Seon-Wook
