Dear Zaher Bhai!

Have you elected as a mentor for this year? Or, do you know any other
guy who has selected as a mentor in our country? Till now I could not
select a mentor. I need your help.

Thanks.

You are not supposed to select a mentor. Your responsibility is to select a project, study and make proposal. Mentor are assigned by the mentoring organization depending on your proposal and specific expertise needed for the project. You do not need to worry about that. If in doubt, I suggest you read the gsoc FAQ from the official GSOC page, that would clarify your anxiety.

Best of luck

Than you Zaher Bhai!

I have gone through the FAQs. How will I select a project? If I fail to understand details of a project than who might help me? If I select one how will I be sure that someone did not already choose the project?

Regards.

Choose the ones that you are interested in + that you do understand, for e.g. if you are a php guy it would make more sense to apply for Joomla or Drupal rather than Boost which is a C++ project.

Most of the times, go into the respective organization's development page, read to documentation. Subscribe to their developer mailing list and go to their IRC chat room. If you do not understand something, then ask about the specific problem. But do not ask silly questions like "How does this/that work", you have to figure that on your own. You should ask questions like "I have been running this/that, but after going through the code, in XX module's YY file, I don't understand why the developer used ZZ function". Anything less than that is likely going to be ignored by the community.

You cannot know that, most of the time, of two or more persons choose the same project idea then the best is picked. You have to take a "leap of faith" here on your own, I'm afraid :)
