Team,
Memorial Day holds significant meaning in my heart. THIS Memorial Day I have been intimately reminded of the price of freedom. This evening I received a call from the father of one of my best friends that I served with in the Corps whom went on to serve in another branch. He lost his life this morning fighting the global war on terror in Afghanistan with a special operations team. His family was notified three hours prior to this email being drafted.
I have since, spent hours in silence, "listening" to my thoughts and remembering his life and the many memories we shared together as brothers. In this time I processed these thoughts in the best way I know how.... I ran. During my run the words below cycled through my mind unformed and out of sequence. Once I got back to my quarters, words spilled into place along with tears of sorrow.
The poem has been sent to his father along with my request that they be read at his funeral. Through these words, I will no longer mourn his death but rejoice in his life. I would ask that you remember the unspoken warrior and his family in your prayers. Remember all those that have shared his divine sacrifice and may we never forget!
In Life, I listened to the wisdom
In Liberty, I listened to the calling
In Preparation, I listened to my body
In Doubt, I listened to my mind
In Fear, I listened to my heart
In Pain, I listened for the lesson
In Darkness, I listen for the Light
In Victory, I listen to His voice
In Memory, we listen in silence
We Will Never Forget,
Jeremy Soles
