I am sending this out on the Google Group because this is an unofficial
outpouring of gratitude and also, in the spirit of this group (which was
set up to be a vehicle for social communication), a request for your
prayers for my father.
First the gratitude: I was so happy this weekend to be able to share
with you the connection to Shambhala Mountain Center, Sakyong Mipham,
Rinpoche and Ani Pema Chodron. To be able to sit in a room in
Gainesville, Florida with people who are interested in the dharma,
willing to give up a weekend, has brought me close to tears. Thank
you. Thank you also to everyone who helped set-up (especially Suzanne
who could not join us) and take down, and brought good food to share. I
especially want to thank Geoff for providing the equipment and technical
know-how to turn our room into a theater. Thank you to all.
I hope each of you who attended got something worthwhile and helpful
from this program. I thought both talks were warm and personal and a
real sharing of what matters to each of them. I wish these talks would
be available to listen to again, but they specifically said that they
would not be made available. I guess we can't count on replays.
However, for you who were not there and for you who were there and
missed parts as I did, there are books and online resources that cover
some of the same material.
On a personal note, my father is quite ill. He visited here about two
months ago. Since then he has had persistent inflammation in his leg
which led to surgery. He was recovering from the surgery when he fell
and broke his hip. He was recovering from breaking his hip and suddenly
developed a high fever and went into shock. He is now out of ICU and
hopefully going to recover without further incident although he is quite
weak.
My father is an interesting man who has dedicated the past thirty years
of his life to helping people. He promised me he would be dancing at
his 80th birthday in October. Please send some love to my father.
Best Wishes,
Charles
Dear Charles,
Just as I sat down at the computer to send you an e-mail of thanks for this weekend, I noticed and then read your e-mail first.
I would be very happy to send your father love and healing energy for a quick and complete recovery. I see him dancing on his 80th birthday in October.
Thank you and Suzanne so much for welcoming us into your home, and for providing the experience to hear and be inspired by these two revered spiritual teachers. The experience was deepened for me by the company of our group, and knowing that hundreds of others were watching as we were.
I am very glad to be reconnected with you in Shambala. It has been quite awhile since we met in Tallahassee. Please give the people in Tallahassee my best when you speak to them. I have such nice memories of the teachings and their hospitality.
Best wishes,
Edi

Hi Charles,
Summer has been so busy with all of the camps we've been running and planning - It has been hard for me to make it to sitting sessions. I hope to get back to the group after summer has settled a bit.
I will be sitting with a focus on your father tonight and I will visualize healing and comfort for both he and you. My grandmother was quite ill and the outlook was not great but she healed and lived for many years! Best to you, Hollie |

| Dear Charles, Thank you, to you and Suzanne, for once again opening up your home to us and creating a lovely atmosphere for learning in community. I was delighted to be able to participate in the Sat. afternoon talk (did they ever address the questions from the group in Tehran?), and I regretted missing Pema Chodron's talk on Sunday. On Sunday, I came up here to Cape Cod, where I'm doing a weeklong conference on Buddhist practices for healing shame and fear. We are doing lots of meditations--I will be sure to do metta practice for your father, Charles, and for you, too, as you deal with his fragile health. I loved sharing Sat. with everyone, and look forward to continuing to grow and learn together! Best, Jan |
