I'm on Win XP SP3, downloaded GSiteCrawler-123-full.exe and all I get is a black dos box for about 2 seconds and then the box goes away. I used to use this program a lot back 2005-2009. I'd like to use it again and can't. Any suggestions?

You may be blocking installation by some security settings or an overly aggressive anti-virus.

Ok I disabled my antivirus on my XP and win7 pc's. They both do the same thing. Black dos box for 5-7 seconds and then nothing else. Real bummer. This is the only one I've ever liked.

Thanks Alexander, but I don't believe the installation file is corrupted, unless it got corrupted through the download process due to some firewall or anti-virus wanting to prevent it from downloading.

In any case I removed your 2 previous posts because I cannot be certain that what you posted is not a link to a malicious download.

But indeed these programs must be installed and run as administrator, else they will not work.

On XP I am admin and I run as admin on 7. I'll try disabling AV  and then downloading. Thanks for rapid responses.

Use compatibility mode when you run the program. Right click it and pick that options.

Sorry, I don't know what to say.

You need to run as administrator, from a full administrator account and also run in compatibility mode.

Download it again from the website while being signed into an administrator account and go through the installation process again. Make sure your firewall doesn't block anything.

Nope! doesn't work. so at this point I have given up. I really want it on my xp pc and it's not going to work so I have given up and moved on to another program. The file size downloaded is 10,790MB's.  Thanks for what effort you could give to make it work.

Hi,
I just tried installing the program and it just does not work (win xp, win7 64bit). Can you please provide the md5 sum.
I found an old version of the program and this has a different md5 sum.

Sorry Felix, I cannot provide that.
If you downloaded the latest file, it should install. Please check any anti-virus or firewall settings which may prevent it.
I have  installed mine with no problem on Win 7 64-bit. You must be logged in as administrator and, in order toe execute any of the programs, you have to set them all to run in compatibility mode.

Hi Christina,

I read the whole forum and tried everything. It did just not work with the latest version. To check that the download was not corruped I asked for the checksum.

I have the same problem and I can say that there is something wrong.
Please post a checksum that you can get very easy by downloading the file and scanning with md5 or sha!
Please This eliminate the download errors.
And making installation a test to confirm that everything is all right and working on your side.
Thanks.

I can confirm that files on http://gsitecrawler.com/en/download/ currently are corrupted.
It returns olny short info: This program cannot be run in dos mode.

Its not about Run as admin or antyvirus or firewall.

I have old copy (downloaded 2 years ago) and it is working. Its md5 (full installer) is: 6C5843A81FC8C59CE0C8C8B0E04865C2

Same problem here with the installation file. I'm attempting to install on a 64-bit computer running Windows 7 Professional. I tried all the suggestions above without success. Each time I receive the same error message: "This version of the file is not compatible with the version of windows your running".

Any solutions to this yet?

The old copy from 2 years ago would be fine. There's been no change since then.

I cannot tell you why the current files appear corrupted. I will have  inquire further.
Might be trouble with the server.

I can also confirm that the current install exe offered on the website is corrupt.

As others in this thread were able to do, I located an older copy of GSiteCrawler-123-full.exe that works without issue on Windows 10 64 bit. You'll know you have a good copy because the icon will display in the file manager, while the corrupt copy does not:

Current exe MD5: 32D7A5C499C94C3AD3909D10E411B1A6
Current exe file size: 11,048,529 bytes

Old exe MD5: 6C5843A81FC8C59CE0C8C8B0E04865C2
Old exe file size: 11,048,789 bytes

No moderator has removed anything, but you cannot attach executables to posts in this forum.

You will have to zip it and upload it to a website you control and provide a link.

One issue is that Chrome always complains of any executable file to be downloaded even if zipped. Obviously this won't instill confidence. I wonder if that's part of the issue people are in fact complaining about.

Thank you Dan. I am on a Chromebook and cannot do much. Can anybody confirm that the file downloads without issues and that it can install without issues?
Keep in mind that you need to use a full admin account for installing and running. Also run as admin and in compatibility mode all the different executables.

Sorry, everyone!

I have no idea where things went wrong -- this must have happened as I moved everything to App Engine. Since I don't use a Windows PC anymore, the file sizes looked the right order of magnitude. I'm not sure where those bytes went :). Taking the originals and re-hosting them directly, it looks like they're executable now again.

It's been over a decade since I made GSiteCrawler, who would have thought it would last so long :). What kind of websites are you using it for?

Cheers
John

Thank you John :)

Yes, this is the quintessential Energizer bunny and about the only piece of software which has continued to work without a hitch through so many Windows OS changes.

I am using GSC on all my hand-coded websites, small and large.
