Dear Colleagues,

Whether or not you are able to join the Lunar Calibration Workshop, I would like to give you the opportunity to provide input to the discussions in the thermal infrared/microwave session.

I have prepared a few slides to stimulate the discussions, based on the following bullet points. These currently focus on potential development of common lunar models and possible integration into the LSICS framework currently under development. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions – before 4 December.

Lunar Radiometric Discussion Topics

v  Current status of lunar models

§  Short-comings

§  Uncertainty levels – now and potential

§  Requirements for different applications

v  Possible Counterpart of GIRO/LSICS model/framework for IR/MW?

§  GIRO-counterpart = Communal model of lunar disk-integrated brightness temperature

§  LSICS-counterpart = Common framework to drive model(s)

§  Over range of wavelengths/frequencies

§  Incorporating Emissivity + Skin/Profile Temperature models (disk-average)

§  Possible integration into LSICS? - What inputs are needed? E.g. solid angle

v  Potential of Spatially-resolved Models

§  Emissivity + Skin/Profile Temperature

§  – classified by surface type map

Lunar Geometric Discussion Topics

v  MW Pointing alignment/verification

v  FOV Mapping

v  Lunar eclipses:

§  Potential interest? E.g. non-saturated IR observations

§  How to treat in model?

Non-Lunar Topics

v  Current status & Potential of Planets/Stars

§  Radiometric applications

§  Geometric applications

§  Spectral?

§  Limitations – LEO satellites?

§  Uncertainty levels – now and potential

§  Requirements for different applications

General Discussion Topics

v  Data sharing

§  Are more observations needed to develop models?

§  Have these observations already been made?

v  Can we process and share them?

Cheers,

Tim
