Dear Anthony,
I remember seeing a search box displayed on top of the leading edge on previous GSEA versions. I am using the version GSEA_MacApp_4.4.0-WithJava.app.zip, with Java for Apple Silicon Macs (M1 etc) but it does not have a search box to select the gene sets to run the GSEA analysis. Was this feature taken away from this version? Pls see the attached screenshot. There is no "filter box" in this version as stated in the documentation.
From the GSEA documentation: "Use the filter box to display a subset of gene sets. As you enter text in the field, GSEA updates the list of gene sets to show only those that match the entered text. To change the text search options, click the magnifying class icon in the filter box."
Thanks!

Hi Rolando,

The latest version of GSEA contained a change to an internal framework that was necessary to address some security/compatibility issues with the latest versions of MacOS. This changeover impacted several areas of the UI where the prior framework was used. That said, I do not recall this specific feature being a regression that we were aware of. I'll have to check with the software development side and get back to you.

Hi Rolando,

Yes, this was indeed purposely removed in the 4.4.0 release.  As Anthony points out, there were a number of features that relied on problematic third-party libraries that needed to be reworked and/or removed.  This was one of the more involved of those features, and its removal was probably the most debated.

We decided at the time that it was more important to finish the release as the other benefits of the updates outweighed the loss of this feature, but with the understanding that we could bring it back in a later update if there is a call for it.  Can I take it from your message that you found this feature helpful?

Thanks,
David
