Custom linktypes

Hello developers,
we have been looking into GS1 Digital Link and were wondering, whether link types supported by resolvers are to be limited to the ones defined in the gs1 namespace (https://www.gs1.org/voc/?show=linktypes) or can/should be extended with custom ones to support additional cases. Scanning the documentation known to me, I have not been able to determine this.

Hi Vincent,

To add extra link types to the standard list, the formal process is to submit a GS1 work request, which is then reviewed by the GS1 Global Master Data SMG.  

However, feel free to propose ideas here or email Phil Archer <phil....@gs1.org> and me and we can take a quick look to think about broader applications of those ideas.

Turnaround time for the formal process could be within about 2 months.

Excellent question Vincent. I'm keen to stay in the loop. I've been working on other things over the past (half) year, but I also remember running into a couple of situations that required additional LinkTypes.

Adding a couple of points to what Mark said:

1. The developer's resolver takes its list of allowed link types from the GitHub repo (https://github.com/gs1/WebVoc) specifically the 'current plus patch' version. This means we can try out new link types from GitHub and then, if needed, add them to the ratified GS1 Web Vocabulary through the formal change management process Mark pointed to.

*Caveat* - right now there seems to be a bit of a problem with this and only the ratified link types are seen in the dev resolver but @Nick is aware of this and it's on the backlog to be fixed. If you want to use this feature, your usage will help push it up the priority list, so don't be shy in saying you need it.

2. If you run your own resolver, whether you use the open source code in GitHub or roll your own, you can, of course, recognise whatever link types you want.
