Hi guys,

The ABS on my brother’s  R1200GS ADV stopped working

I get this error with the GS-911.

#2010-10-27 17:29:32

#GS-911 J2ME V1.40

#R1200GS Adventure

#Integral ABS 2 - CAN

24048:Power Supply to Pump motor faulty

24049:Power Supply to Pump motor faulty

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

This is a failure of the fuel pump controller that sits on top of the fuel pickup assembly.  A known issue.

I got this problem last year and ended up with ABS unit replaced.
Some says ABS software reprogramming (update) solves this problem, but I don't want to speculate on this.
What year is the bike?

Doesn’t sound like a fuel pump controller to me.  When my fuel pump controller died the GS-911 error specifically said “electric fuel pump faulty.”

Oscar, sounds like you either have a broken wire feeding power to the ABS or a bad ABS.

I know around 6 bikes in our riding community here had this problem.
All of them are non servo bikes and the newest bike is Nov 2007 production. At least this is from my observation.
I think your bike is in the same group as those bikes.

Hi

Definitely not fuel pump - we're talking to the ABS here.

Is the problem status as reported by the gs-911 currently present or not?

I would remove the fuel tank to get to the ABS controller and pump
assembly. Check for any obvious loose connections, clear contacts etc.
Measure if you can.
Check that your front brake lever is not touching the hand guards.
Make sure the battery is fully charged (ie. 13V+), clear the fault
codes, cycle the ignition, use the brakes and see if the error returns.
If you don't spot something obvious, this usually points to a problem
inside the controller, which is not user serviceable (or at you peril).
I have a 2008 ADV, no ABS problems yet.

Best,
Kobus

Hi guys!

This is really a good thing to share, considering the cost to replace this particular part. Dealerships of course, will just recommend replacing the whole thing. However, I'm still having the same fault codes present, after a trip around the block or after a few press on the brakes.
Initially, the bike seemed ok, as the ABS lamp turns off, as it rolls off. (this was after the suggested repair seen in this post) I have followed the steps in correcting the problem that I have with the GS Adventure I'm working on but to my dismay, the exact fault codes showed up again & won't be cleared. I carefully checked the tension & the condition on both carbon brushes & both are still in good condition, when dismantled. Cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner too but it still lit up.

Any suggestion or recommendation, will highly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Did you replace the bearings as well?  Those may well be your problem.

Hi
Do you test the ABS module with ABS test on 911?

I did a similar repair. While drilling to wholes on the side of the motor to release the clip, the drill bit slipped into the motor and damaged the winding. This causes the motor to run until it stops on that dead segment  and the fault would come up. (same fault codes).

I was very lucky as a bike shop nearby had an old used pump and I managed to salvage the motor from that one and that fixed my problem.

I hope you did not do the same, I have subsequently had the motor rewound and that has become my service exchange motor.

@bernard:
Maybe you have to give more room to the brushes so they won't stick in their holders.
I had the same errorcodes and solved this by the same procedure.
I did not remove the bearrings because these were hard to remove.

If you do the procedure all over again and install everything back on your bike you can cuse the GS-911 module to test or bleed the ABS unit.
When you start this procedure the pump motor should run for 3 seconds for 3 times in every procedure.
If the pump motor is not running there is still an electrical problem with the steering of power to the pump rotor.
I used to post another link here to another forum were i also put some pictures.
