I've owned my 2008 K1200GT since day one and admittedly it's a
pampered garage queen recently turning 10,000 miles. Yesterday I
experienced the dreaded "brake failure" on my display. Here's what
the GS911 shows after running an autoscan.

Integral ABS 2 - CAN
Part No.: 7711978
HW Version No.: C1
Coding Index: 0
Manufacturing Date: 2007-07-06
HWOE No.: 29058963
Manufacturer: Continental Teves
MCV: 0.6.0
FSV: 2.2.0
OSV: 3.3.0
Free programming slots: 1
Serial No.: 6776000FD
Hardware No.: 07682002
Hardware star No.: 07711978

2 fault codes found:

24048 Power Supply to Pump motor faulty. The fault is currently
present.
24049 Power Supply to Pump motor faulty. The fault is currently
present.

Did a search on this forum and Stephen suggests cleaning the
connections which I will do tonight. Battery is a new Odyssey unit
and it's kept on a tender so no issue with a declining battery. Some
questions please:

1. I serviced the final drive over the weekend and was most careful
moving the speed sensor wire. If for some reason I did damage the
wire, would not being able to read the rear wheel speed trigger these
fault codes?

2. Why can't I clear them using my GS911? Assume since the fault
remains that precludes my ability to clear?

3. Is there a company stateside that could fix my old ABS modulator
or perhaps sell me a re-manufactured unit?

4. Has anyone dismantled one of these units and can point to suspect
areas (a pc board with a solder short for example)?

5. I've changed the front & rear brake fluid about six months ago
using the conventional bleeding method. In my mind this only
addressed the old fluid between the reservoir and caliper. I assume
the brake lines are fed somehow to the ABS modulator. How does one go
about a more thorough flush on my 2008 model bike?

Other than the annoying red light on my dash, the bike runs great.
I'd consider a new K1600GT but the GS911 isn't available for that
model just yet and no doubt the dealer would offer a truly laughable
trade on my K12GT without working ABS.

Appreciate any direction you gents could provide.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Partial answers:
Battery could still be faulty, new or battery tender is not a guarantee
Regarding the abs bleeding, may I suggest to check with advrider, I
believe you can find an answer there. Succes with the search.

Not to be pesimistic, but I have seen enough cases of early production of
Integral ABS 2 with this problem, including mine, and I think you might have
to replace the ABS unit.

Agreed Budi so I dropped the bike off at the dealership earlier this
morning. Good news for me is that it's under warranty so ostensibly I
won't have to part with either $1,886 or the $2,468 for a new ABS
unit. I'm still not certain which modulator my 2008 model has
(leaning toward the less expensive $1,886 or part number 34517715109).

The bad news is that I won't get to tinker with the defective ABS
modulator. I like taking things apart and this would have been a keen
troubleshooting experience for me. With all I've been reading on this
particular issue, it could have been a clogged hidden filter
(discussed on ADV Rider forum) or possibly a solder short. Now I'll
never know.

Thanks for the comments.

If the dealer replaces the modulator, then ask for the old one back.

When my R1150RT module was changed (in the UK), I got the old one back, but
haven't looked at the filter as yet.

If you are paying for the repair you have the right to get the old one
back. But I'm not sure that is the case if it's done under warranty.

I'm pretty sure that if it's warranty work, not even the dealer has
the rights to the unit, it may have to be surrendered to BMW if they
actually wanted it. Unlikely you will be able to get it. That said,
ask the dealer.

Usually...or at so it is in Norway:
Parts exchanged during warranty work IS the property of the local importer.
BUT.... the importer usually never want the old parts returned to them.
The workshop HAS to keep the old parts for some time- then can drop them in
the bin.
(I think it was 3 months)
IF you are a friend of the mechanic he CAN let you have it.... but he does
so at risk of loosing his job.
The parts ARE to be "destroyed" after the holding time.
---------------
IF its NOT guarantee work the old parts ARE your property!

Hi my name is Sunny, I have a 2007 K1200GT which faulted with the same "Power supply to motor fault" and would not clear.
I was a BMW Master Certified Tech for 8 years, but retired in 2008. I really didn't want to depend on my old shop for assistance
should I have any trouble with any of my BMW so that said I purchased a GS911 to assist in diagnostics. My K1200GT is somewhat of a garage Queen with only 7000 miles on it, the ABS unit faulted with same fault codes. Once I checked
all the likely causes and the faults wouldn't clear I ordered a new unit, 'but you must provide the vin" when you order and yes they
are expensive, but it is a "Plug a Play" using just traditional bleeding procedures. Hope this info has been helpful. Ciao!!!
