I am (after)mounting a (used) RDC system (+ alarm) to my '08 R1200GS. The sensors don't have ID numbers, only serial #. I am trying to wake up the sensors by releasing air, but they are still sleeping.
GS-911 at once discovered the alarm, and are "willing" to "talk" to the sensors. What are the magic words? Are there a table of serial vs ID #?

Most TPMS sensors "wake up" when the wheel starts moving. The "wake up" call is usually reproduced by placing a strong magnet around the valve stem.

However, with the age of bike you have mentioned, it's not impossible that the sensor batteries are dead!

BMW sensors doe not use magnets... pls see this write up under the techinfo page:
 http://www.hexcode.co.za/techinfo/techinfo

the fast release of pressure from the wheel is a "work-around" but not guaranteed to work.. I still want to check whether the removal of the valve internals will trigger the emergency function and thus wake the sleeping sensors, in those sensors that have difficulty waking when just deflating the tire by hand...

Ultimately the Wake-up tool is the correct tool for the job... We have not yet managed to source a cost effective one for use with the these BMW TPMS units... (actually contemplating building one.. but oh the time... ;-) )

best,
Stephan

The sensors are woken up using a specific RF signal - not a magnet (hence the "wake up tool").
However you are correct that if the batteries are dead there is no way to wake them up.
New sensors have the ID printed on them so you probably have sensors that are dead by now.

What is the "alarm" that GS-911 discovered?
Complete error info will help to know whether you have dead batteries or the RDC controller needs to be married to the bike (only BMW dealer can do this part).

Hei (Norwegian for hello) "Alarm" was bike-alarm.
I have a small chamber for testing divers depth gauges. I shall bring this to the local dealer, and do another test with his RF-tool. (My (Shrader-) sensors still have the valve stem mounted.) Next test will then be to try to "melt" away the mould that covers the battery, and check/change them.
THX for support and ideas. Will keep You informed. (Hilsen Pål Kirknes, Trondheim, Norge)

Wondering: need the wheel be spinning (faster than 30 kp/h) before releasing air, and then sensor sending the alarm signal?

Just try this way. Insert the key, even move the bike, release some air from valve (aprox 1,5 psi) and play with GS911 with wake up. If works, it is going to discover it and you are going to be able to read the code

And: New information about the problem. I am not getting the software to ask for sensors! : "Negative response received from controller: subfunction not supported by controller or invalid format"
What is the solution now?? (we even in despair invented the upside down bicycle-rig to spin the sensors!)
