Hello,

I hear a lot the definition "normal engine operating temperature", but
never could find the exact value for it. In REP ROM - service manual
this definition is also can be found a lot, but never found what it
should be exactly. It is also found in this discussion group, but
never the exact values.

Please help to find the following:

1. What is the normal operating temperature range of the engine in
F800GS?
2. At what temperature FAN should start working?
3. At what temperature FAN should stop working?
4. At what temperature thermostat should start opening?
5. At what temperature thermostat should be fully opened?
6. What is the time constant for thermostat opening? (If I rapidly put
the thermostat in boiling water, what is the time period that it will
be fully opened?)

Thanks,
Maxim.

this is a wide definition... generally used to make sure your engine is
in the normal operating mode, with no cold start enrichment etc... you
can be pretty sure your engine is no longer enriching for cold start,
when it's at 80degC or higher...

however, why don't you do a couple of measurements on your motorcycles
and report back what you found... that way the group learns too... and
has its first reference...

best,
Stephan

still doesn't tell us where the fan goes on wan where it goes off
again... I think you need some more time behind the bike... ;-)

Thanks for the response.

I assume this the temperature that you measure during riding. Is it
correct?

I've taken measurements during the ride and while warming up from
cold.
I'd like to share the results. How can I share an image file here?

Thanks,
Maxim.

From the measurements I've taken on my F800GS, I can understand that
thermostat is being fully opened at 83deg, fan starts to operate at
105deg stops at 97deg. The aforementioned was taken when the bike was
standing still warming-up from cold. Temperature range during riding
was 80-87deg (ambient air temperature was about 30deg).

Yes it was riding. Happened to have it here at work. Not all the
info but was a start. ;-) Just run a log from cold to fan on and off
and you will see at what temp it does all that.
