My 2010 RT just 10k miles and it have Brake Failure light on about month. I had google about the brake failure solution ( check front and rear sensor wires, brake light, changed brake pads and changed fluid both side) and has done all but the brake failure light still on. The brake failure light on when I start ride about 5 miles away from home when arrived my company I park there 8 hours and when I turn on the key to return home the brake failure light flashes like normal but when the bike run about 5 miles the brake failure light on again and stay there until I arrived home. And the brake failure light start to on after the bike run 5-6 miles everyday. I use GS 911 check the fault code and it showed
24048/24049 Power supply to motor fault
24052 Electrical system under voltage
I just replace the new BMW original battery today and try to run test, the brake failure light flashes like normal but after 4-5miles the brake failure light on, I has try to stop the bike, turn off the key wait for 2 mins and start again, the brake failure continuous flashes like normal (????) I tried to ride slow to test the brake function... front and rear seem work normal and the brake failure on again ....   try to stop wait and start 2-3 times but the issue still happened, after go home I test the ABS with the fault still present and see:
the pump motor voltage : 2.89V ( normally when the bike stop is 0.0v
Pressure in rear wheel control circuit : 655200 mbar ( normally is 0)
Could anyone experienced with this issue? some advice? The new ABS unit cost $1k7++  OMG

hi all,

A friend "Yut" from "DYNAMIC MOTORS"  emailed me with the remedy of this problem.
and now ABS working properly!!!
attached are the images he showed me.
it was the pump motor's brush sticking on its housing.
that is why it returns back to normal every time i rubber mallet the module.
i manage to open up the module and free the brush housing.
thanks to him, i have not spent even a cent!!!

Onderwerp: [GS-911] Indicating a brake failure R1200R 2008.

Last year on a ride the brake light failure illuminated at 5500miles.

After a stop I restarted and continued my journey and the same occurred again.

Over time this problem progressively worsened so I carried out various multi-meter tests to sensors and supplies but was unable to locate the specific problem.

On-line I came across the GS-911 so I purchased one and interfaced to my Nokia 6300.

This flagged up fault codes:

24048: Power supply to pump motor faulty.

Status: The fault is present.

24049: Power supply to pump motor faulty.

Status: The fault is present.

Having read this forum with conflicting info and now that spring has arrived, I removed the ABS unit (iABS2-CAN, front sensor ring-48 teeth) to carry out further investigation – the electronics are in a sealed plastic casing so I bit the bullet and purchased a new unit at £1125 - ouch.

Procedure:

1/. Connected unit electrically – No faults present.

2/. Fitted unit, bled brakes, rode bike - Result.

I tried to find a proper answer to the actual pressure, I failed to find a real answer

The millibar converts to 9500 psi, so the bike will not roll, and I would expect the pipes to fracture minimum (my best guess)

so, before the brakes became errant, did the bike have a darn good wash, could we have got water into the connectors, leading to corrosion, got to start there first i think, along with dropping the caliper out and ensuring the pistons move freely on that circuit

655220 seems very much like a misread, rather that a correct value, although I stand to be corrected

We had a brake problem on a brake-assist model because the hand guard touched the (hand-)brake lever, so the initial brake test was not performed when the ignition was turned on. - Just for additional info!! Fault disappeared when handguard was pushed down in it's right position.

Thank for the solution but I will try it when dont have any solution would fix my bike problem because my ABS system seem still working but unstable i think, has just tried to move the handle bar around and test but the brake failure light still on. I'm thinking about the fault present when the bike hot and clear when the bike cooled when stop for feel hours....

I have several references of customers who had the same fault codes.

Each and every one had problems with sticky brushes. One even replaced his ABS unit with a second hand unit of another bike (not the same model) and had it coded by the BMW dealer. Still problems.

Finally he opened up his orginal ABS unit and noticed the brushes where stuck. He solved the problem, remounted the original ABS unit (without coding) and everything was back ok.

I’m afraid that will be your only option (or a shiny brand new ABS from BMW $$$$).

As a test, you can knock on the unit with a rubber hammer. If this temporarely solves your problem, it’s a problem with the brushes.

Best,

Jos

do you know any coding needed from the BMW dealer when I buy a new ABS ? or just plug and play?

See the reply from Jos.

When you have 24048 en 24049 errors the brushes of the motor are stuck in the housing.
I had the same problem with my ABS (R1200R 2007 with 30000km)
when you want to know more or good instructiona about repair, please take a look here:

I posted under nickname "damted" there.

The DIY will prevent you from buying a new unit from BMW.
Good luck!

Seems a good suggestion, they will give you a 5 year warranty on their repair.
Could you please send me a picture of the module when you receive it back, because I really want to know where they drill the holes for reinstalling of the motor?

(I did not dare to drill any holes to prevent a defective module ;-)  )

Ted

Hi Bui Duc,

Any progress on the repair of your ABS module?
I am still curious about how Module Master did reinstall the motor with the drilled holes.
Is there already a picture available?
regards,
Ted
