Hi fellow GS-911 users, I have a problem with 2002 R1150GS, no spark at spark plugs and no fuel at injectors, fuel pressure is O.K., GS-911 shows no faults, any suggestions?
Thanks, Boris

Boris,

I'm assuming the battery voltage is good and you're able to crank the engine.

I would suspect the Hall-Effect Sensor (HES) assembly or the HES wiring.  The HES determines TDC and BDC crankshaft position and feeds these timing pulses into the computer.

I thought there was a fault code for the HES?

Hi Boris

Agree with last reply but you may want to start with fuses and
connections, I cleaned all of them including the hall sensor
connector . The bulk of them may be found under the tank, contact
cleaner and silicone grease should eliminate that potential risk.

Also check and clean fuse/relays.

Mine was playing up did above and also found lambada sensor to be
defective (now disconected), furthermore my side stand switch was
missing a circlip and the clutch cut off switch was not being engaged
due to a worn pivot. Seems to have solved my problem, my money was on
the connectors as the culprit.

Anyway I was getting a spark but no fuel and it was intermittant, so
may be a different problem, but I would still make sure all your
connectors are clean before you start to think about replacing the
hall sensor.

there are fault codes for the Hall sensors... if the engine has NOT
cranked during that ignition cycle, you will get them too...

however, if the engine cranked AND the ECU sees their signal during
cranking, then they will not show up...

best,
Stephan

I had the TDC sensor sending pulses during cranking and the BDC sensor failed(not sending pulses, staying at the positive rail)
The gs-911 did NOT indicate any fault codes in this failure mode.

Hi

Not sure what you mean by that first paragraph, do you mean if the sensor is faulty, for the fault to register the ignition is on and you don't attempt to start/crank the engine?

Is there anyway to improve the reliability of the diagnostics in terms of detecting hall sensor faults, for example would it be possible to run a test on each individual sensor, fututure sofware update?

Cheers

Simon

hi Simon... remember we (the GS-911) is not diagnosing the fault... it
merely reads the fault memory of the Control unit...

which means it is the Control unit that needs to detect the fault and
then store it in its memory before we can show you anything....

hence my first paragraph... The MA2.4 controller always shows you the 2
hall effect sensor fault codes, if you simply switch on the ignition and
then read the fault code memory... If however the engine was cranked
during this ignition cycle (or is currently running), hence the control
unit is receiving the signals from the hall sensor... and removes the
hall sensor codes from the fault memory automatically...

hope this makes more sense...

Stephan

Hi,

Working on an '04 twinspark 1150 GS. Fault code 17911 (rear lamp defective) comes out even though no problem found. Tried to replace bulb with a new one. Fault reappears and wont clear. Any leads?

Thanks,
Ray

have you followed the correct procedure when clearing the fault code
(with cycling the ignition as prompted) - the iABS is rather particular
about that...

Also, are you sure it's the correct bulb (wattage) ? - the ABS
determines the "working" of the bulbs by the amount of current they
consume...

And sure that both filaments in the bulb are working (if I recall the
bulb contains both the Brake and Rear light filaments in the one bulb)

Stephan

Or possibly a dirty contact between bulb and bulb-holder, which can alter
the resistance slightly (and therefore the wattage) but the bulb still
works. That has happened to me once (but not on a BMW).

Stephan,

I used the desktop program to clear the fault. Don't recall seeing a "prompt" to cycle the ignition.

The new lightbulb came from BMW. It was identical. Also the sockets were clean and I even sprayed contact cleaner.
