I an having problems with a high mileage 1150 gs single spark this has slight play in the throttle bodies.
Connecting the GS911 the engine fault codes come up with the usual hall transmitters and also Throttle position sensor intermittent fault on upper or lower slider. I replaced the Potentiometer but still have the fault. When trying to set the Potentiometer position I get  (error) Idle switch should be in off position. Where is the idle switch?
Any ideas please?

The throttle position potentiometer is also the idle switch.

Thanks ,
I wondered if it was that. But why does the error code come up?  I an ge tting the fault code intermittent fault on 2 different throttle sensors and now get the idle switch error. I was not getting the idle switch error on the same bile with the same sensor 2weeks ago? Is there anything else that may induce this fault?

Check that your cables are not sticky, that both are free and both are opening fully and close fully.

Don't bother with GS911 when changing the TPS, set it to 375mv approx by measuring on the red/white (nr 4) and ground with motor off, ign on.
then reset the motronic by removing fuse nr 5 and waiting 30sec with ign off.
Then turn ignition ignition on but motor must be off, open throttle completely 2x.
Then re connect the GS911, reset all faults  and test the TPS again, it should be in the green, in the upper range.
You can also measure the TPS mv when the motor is idling to compare to the measurement with motor off.

If you still have problems with the TPS you probably have a TPS cable problem. the cable is tied to the left throttle body with a tie wrap and very often this is way to tight, wich might damage the cables.

Badly worn TB's can make it near impossible to synch the TB's , you can rebuild them, there are (expensive ) bing rebuild kits, but there's an affordable DAN CATA kit +/- 50$ each

Good luck
Dirk

IMHO, GS911 is fine for setting the TPS, if you understand how it works (i wonder why it's not documented better):

- The TPS needs to be set to an initial position:  if too high, you get the idle switch error, if too low, you get the the TPS fault code.  In both of these cases, GS911 won't let you fine tune it in the TPS adjustment menu.
- To do the initial setting, you use the real time data menu on the GS911 and watch the throttle opening value (in deg.).  When throttle is off with no choke, that value should be the first step above 0 deg. (which is 0.32 deg. if i recall correctly).
-  Once the TPS bolts are initially thigten, you have to play with the throttle a bit and returned it back to off;  if you are not able to keep that initial value (0.32 deg.) when throttle is off, its either because of sticky cables or worn throttle body shaft that lets the TPS wobble, like other posters said.  In both cases, you will have to correct these problems before moving on (change cables, clean/fix/change bowden box and/or rebuild throttle bodies).
-  When you are able to keep that 0,32deg. value for initial throttle opening, you will be able to easylly fine tune the TPS with the GS911.  I prefer to set it in the middle of the range.

I have two of these R1150 single spark bikes that run very fine but both needed to have the cables and TB rebuild above 120,000 KM.

Ride safe!

Nick

Sounds complicated.
If you haven't got a multimeter and want to use the GS911 to tune the TPS, then ignore the initial faults, and move the TPS around until you're in the green. I prefer the upper range (less KFR) but as long as it's in the green you shouldn't be getting errors.
You will still need to do a motronic reset (like I described earlier) after tuning the TPS.

Dirk

Thanks,
The fault turned out to be a step in the l/h throttle body and a faulty potentiometer.
