I have a K1200 with integral ABS that don’t work. The Error Code found was ‘high pressure rear brake circuit’ and it would not clear as the computer believes that the fault is still present.  Any ideas how I might get this to clear?  I was told that if I can clear it and ‘exercise’ the brakes it could help fix the problem.

hi Paul,

I would definitely bleed the rear circuits as a start... pls do me a favor and copy-paste the complete error code, then I can look into what other options might be available...

best,
Stephan

Thanks Stephan,

The codes are copied below.  They all cleared other than 17438.

Would I need to bleed at the ABS unit or just at the calliper?

Cheers,

17171: Internal control module error - (calculation error) Control difference between processors

The fault is not present now.

17438: Pressure in rear wheel circuit to high

                The fault is currently present.

17915: Defective Warning lamp

The fault is not present now.

16915: Internal control module error - (calculation error) Control difference between processors

The fault is not present now.

16659: Internal control module error - (calculation error) Control difference between processors

The fault is not present now.

  Hi ,

I had about the same error , had to chance the rear main braekcilinder.(153 euro) I found out by disconecting the rear cirquit that the error was not present anymore. Regards

Thanks Rene,

That sounds a LOT cheaper than the option given to me to change the ABS unit ($2,000 USD + $1,000 to fit)!  So are you referring to the slave cylinder on the brake calliper at the rear wheel that you replaced/overhauled?

I plan to bleed the rear circuit on the weekend and see how that goes initially.

They also wanted me to replace the ABS hydrolicks.....yes , 2560 $. I fond out that when i disconected the rear cirquit that the error was gone. Question, You still hear the ABS hydrolick engine working ?...contact on with activating the braeklever or also with only the contact on??? . In my case the hydrolick ABS was even working without activating the breaklever.

Just had a strange ABS fault here in a 1200GS. GS911 reported high rear wheel speed sensor faulty, then internal error. Replaced the sensor and the problem went away - for 2 days. Replaced the sensor again and was ok again for a few days. Then errors started varying from internal error, wheel sensors, ABS pump PSU etc, etc. Eventually replaced the battery and now all good. It would appear that the ABS cannot cycle completely if the battery is not good, since it draws substantial power directly from the battery when the ignition is turned on.

People with the ABS systems MUST remember to carry out maintenance on the system. The fluid must be changed frequently and the ABS system cycled every week or two (heavy braking on wet grass), if this is not done the tiny filters in the system do block up and restrict flow.

hi Paul,

here's something to try...
Both the rear and front brake levers can be adjusted...  the Servo ABS has a test and "sensor calibration" with which you set this adjustment - i.e. where the ABS ECU sees the ABS switch activated... if these adjustments are off, then by the time the ECU sees the "switch activation" and looks at the pressure of the circuit, it notices that the pressure is too high... and logs a fault...

We have just finished all ABS functions on all ABS units, baring the two servo ones.. (which we are currently working on)... and these have a sensor calibration... HOWEVER, it won't hurt for you to play with these lever adjustments.. I've spoken to quite a number of people that have solved their "too high pressures" like this... so give it a shot (and let us know...)!

best,
Stephan

Thanks Stephan,

That actually sounds quite plausible as they were adjusted by my mechanic a few thousand km back…could be just the trick.

I’ll give it a shot on the weekend as I have nothing to lose.

Cheers,
