Hi,

I have a 2007 R1200GS with I-ABS Gen 2.

ABS module went bad (same common problem,)

I have managed to source a new (used) abs module (matching part
number) to install.

Mechanically the install should be no problem.

BUT I need some info on coding.

Do I need to read coding from old module and recode into the new
module, or is it plug and play?

If there is any coding for this module has anyone done it and what is
needed?

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

No coding needed. It's plug n play.
You might get some error read through GS911 first. Just clear it and everything will be fine.

the new module needs to be"introduced"to the bike via the factory Diagnostic,at your friendly local BMW dealer

As far as I know the GS911 does not have this functionality(Yet?)

Good to see a couple of completely opposite answers!

“the new module needs to be "introduced" to the bike via the factory Diagnostic, at your friendly local BMW dealer”

I've done it. Translanted an '09 module into an '07. Just swap the brackets. You can test the "new" module using the gs911 for functionality. Coding definitely required since we used an '09 unit. Dealer performed this procedure.

HI,

Well actually both answers have some truth in them.

The story goes like this:

Installed the new (used module), bled the brakes, connected the new module, ran a bleed test and re-bled the brakes.

I tested the individual actuators and everything worked, cleared all the faults and took the bike out for a ride.

Traction control worked, and linked brakes worked.
tried a stoppie and I managed (abs did not do it's job)
and abs did not work.

Brake failure light stayed on.

and ABS unit incorrectly coded fault kept coming back.

So the unit works, BUT needs coding by GT1.

GREAT.

So I went to the friends (bastard) dealer and the guy said that he cannot code the ABS as they are connected to bmw and bmw does everything themselves (+ a load of other Bull).

So I asked if he would let me try myself (I re-map ecus and am a diagnostics specialist by trade so he's not going to take me for a ride), guess what, he came with an excuse that the computer is fingerprint protected (and a load of more bull).

So, in the end I'm left with a bike with traction control, linked brakes and no abs. If the bike were mine i'd be happy as I hate ABS, but the bike is my dad's so........

That being said i've been in contact with another dealer in italy and they agreed to do the bike for us, and since my dad will be there next week we SHOULD be good.

Regards,
