I see in the function chart that the GS-911 can read and reset the RDC/
TPM unit.

Can the GS-911 also do the "initial setup" of an RDC / TPM unit that
was not installed at the factory?

Hi Jim,

That will entail "Coding" of certain controllers, to "introduce" the
RDC / TPM controller to the rest of the bike's controller
"family".....

This is something that is not covered by GS-911 yet.

Best,
Zoöl

How about something that should be much simpler (and more common) than
coding a new controller, like allowing the user to replace a tire
pressure sensor? That function would probably find use by many owners
as it would prevent a trip to a dealer just to replace a sensor when
the internal battery dies. The sensors are expensive enough without
having to pay a dealer to enable it ;-)

Hi Seth,

Simpler does not necessarily means easier to implement...... ;-)

The calibration of new pressure sensors has been discussed, but no
estimates on the implementation date of this function is available
yet.

Thanks,
Zoöl

Thanks Zoöl

I wanted that option on the bike when I bought it but things got
messed up.
The low pressure warning on the dash was what had me sold on the idea.
I found a used system for sale and since I'll be buying one of your
units shortly,
I figured I'd see if I could "justify" the purchase in this additional
manner ;-)

I'll call the dealer!

Seth:

About how long do the batteries last, any idea?

Thanks,
Jim

I'm not certain how long they last but my initial impression is not
good (both sensors failed on my 2007 GT within two years :( ) But...
I'm not sure that they died due to low battery because while I did get
a fault code it was generic (TPM sensors not reporting) and not the
specific low battery alert. I believe that the specified battery life
is supposed to be something on the order of 3-5 years. And of course
instead of the $50 generic sensors available for many cars the BMW
units cost about $150 each, and are BMW dealer-only due to a deal with
Schrader (why am I not surprised? ;-) Luckily physical replacement
(during a tire change) is no big deal, but does require the new
sensor's serial code to be programmed into the TPM control unit.
Having to go to a dealer for that is just adding insult to injury.
Hopefully my original units had some sort of manufacturing fault and
the replacements will last longer.

Hi There

it is possible to open your tire pressure units and replace the batteries
you need to have time not to damage them though at the same time you need to
put yourself air to the tires as the people at the petrol stations usually
brake the sensors ( there are very thin by the neck )

regards

Mike

Hi,
can you be more specific about the procedure to replace batteries in
the pressure units?
kind regards,
g.a.
