10443: Fuse activated for electric Fuel-pump. The fault is not
present now.

Wondering how do I approach troubleshooting. Do I replace the
Electric pump fuel controller with a new one? I tried to bypass the
controller and I still cannot get the bike to run. This leads me to
believe the pump may be bad.

Hi Pecos,

We had the exact same fault on our HP2 a couple of weeks ago...

The bike had been standing for a while, so we suspected either the
Fuel Pump Electronics or the Fuel Pump itself.

Step 1 was to bypass the Fuel Pump Electronics, however we still had
no activity on the pump.

Step 2 was to drop in a replacement aftermarket pump sourced at our
local Auto Parts shop, problem solved.

The original pump failed due to the fuel solidifying inside the pump
housing over time.

In our case the fuel pump was drawing too much current, which lead to
the fuse activation by the ECU as indicated by the related fault code.

Thank you,
Zoöl

Yeah, same situation. Bike has been sitting.

Your local auto parts store carries these? That's great.

Do you know what the cross reference numbers are for the pump?

The one we used was a BOSCH 0 580 453 UNI.

Hi Roy,

It turns out that Bosch has used 7 universal fuel pumps in their
"Universal Fuel Pump Program", which was previously a range of 72
pumps.

Your local parts store should be able to pick up one of the following
2 part numbers:

BOSCH 0 580 453 465
VDO 993 784 025 A

The universal pump that I used came with a strainer, however it is not
a given so you might need to use the old one, just make sure to clean
it.

Best,
Zoöl

Just to to close this one out.....

Purchased a fuel pump from euromotoelectrics.com for $150. Less than
half the cost of the oem one.

Removing the old one was a little testy at times but was able to
figure it out. There is a circular press clip that keeps the bottom
green filter attached to pin that is part of the fuel pump. Slowly
pried it off. Put in the new one. Connected everything up.

Tried starting...nothing happened. Tried again...nothing happened.
Hooked up the gs-911 again. No Faults read this time. Tried starting
again....started right up. I assume it was priming itself. Test ride
tonight.

Zoöl:

Do you by chance have any details on this universal pump programme?
I have an F650GS twin, and several buddies have other BMWs it would be
nice if we could "share" a spare fuel pump on long trips....

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

To be honest I stumbled upon this when I walked into our local
"AutoZone" parts shop (old pump in hand), and asked the sales man: "Do
you have one of these?"......... ;-)

I payed the equivalent of 60$.

I believe the one that Pecos sourced is detailed here:

Best,
Zoöl
