I have a Toshiba netbook (nb205) which comes with the Toshiba
proprietary bluetooth stack. I could not get the internal bluetooth
to communicate properly with the GS 911. It paired ok but would
always "hang" when I tested the connection. (happened in the beta and
the standard version GS911 software)

So I simply deleted the Toshiba bluetooth stack software (add/remove
programs), plugged in one of those micro dongles ($15), and windows
found and installed the XP drivers that I needed. Works perfectly
now.

As small and unobtrusive as the micro dongle is, I'd still like to
continue using the internal bluetooth hardware that came with the
computer but I cannot seem to locate it in "device manager". It seems
to have disappeared when I removed the Toshiba bluetooth software.
Will have to spend more time on this tonight. Any suggestions would
be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

Double check, my NB205 did NOT come with the Bluetooth hardware built in, I
had to purchase a micro dongle in order to have Bluetooth capabilites...

Wish I could help Bob, my old Sony Vaio has a built in Bluetooth device but
I can't find any way to make it work. It just doesn't appear in device
manager.

Sorry mate, Martin (ebbo)

Finally, something I can contribute on ;-)

While the software supplied with the dongle will work, bluetooth stacks are currently very protected and that software is tied to the specific chip embedded in the dongle and will not work with other bluetooth hardware, internal nor external.

While I would try the computer mfg's site for updated drivers which will be specific to the built in bt hardware, if they are not available, the simplest solution is to get one of the higher end mini dongles that support the bt standard you need (the cheapies generally do not)

Finally I think Bluesoleil http://www.http//www.bluesoleil.com/download/index.asp?topic=hardwarecheck.com/download/index.asp?topic=hardwarecheck
offers software that may work in your case... the above link should answer that question.

If you try it, please report back as I considered it once but did not purchase.  Note the Bluesoleil is the vendor of the stack included in many dongles, but those copies will not work with other hardware.

Hope this helps,
Beverly Howard

Thanks Beverly,
Its interesting that the software provided by the cheapie dongle
(Cirago) was the Toshiba Bluetooth stack. Didn't know this until I
opened the package. That was when I decided to remove the Tosh stack
from the machine and let SP2 provide the drivers for the Cirago. It
became a very simple process after that and its working fine,
communicating perfectly with the GS911.

But apparently, I deactivated the internal bt radio when I removed the
Tosh stack. I think I'll just live with the dongle. Its working and
its tiny.

Hey I visited your web page. Pretty eclectic variety of information.
I'll have to return and check it out.

Glad the info helped...

It has been an interesting life... most of it now seems like I saw it in a movie way back when ;-)

Need to see if I can put some motorcycle history there as well... just realized that there is zero at the moment.

nope, GS-911 was written to use the Microsoft Stack...
see the FAQ:

best,
Stephan
