On several occasions lately, when connecting the GS911 for analysis, I have received the message to turn ignition on as the GS911 does not recognize that it is on. This has happened on three older bikes. Most recently, on a 1999 R1200C and a 2002 R1150GSA. Of course I double checked to see that the ignition was indeed on, that the run switch was in the “on” position and that the bike was in neutral. After checking all of that and re-initiating the startup procedure, the GS911 still didn’t recognize that the ignition is on. When I moved the GS911 to my 20008 GSA everything worked fine.
I wonder if anyone else has seen this issue and has any explanations. I’ll also check the web site.
Thanks,
Joel Watson

Stephen,
The GS 911 is connected to my PC via USB connection. When I chose the 1200C analysis from the menu I get the message on the screen to Turn the Ignition on even though it is on. When I click OK, I get a second message on the screen that says the GS911 does not recognize the ignition on and asks if I want to continue anyway. Maybe this is normal??
Thanks for your feedback.
Joel
I wrote about this a while back and the situation occurred again today on a 1999 R1200C. After hooking up the GS 911, turning the ignition on in neutral with kill switch in RUN position, I got the following:
Error:
Detected following problem:
Failed to read controller information. No response from controller. Check:
Ignition On
Kill Switch in RUN position
Neutral selected
Imobilizer (if equipped) deactivated
Do you wish to continue anyway. If so, limited ABS functionality available.
I went ahead and continued and got fault code readings. However, when I tried to do the Hall Sensor Test, I got the message that “GS911 unit not detected”
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joel Watson
I had a similar issue on a R1150RT. I eventually discovered it didn’t like the fact that the bike was standing on the side stand. Once I put it on the centre stand and folded the side stand away everything worked perfectly.
Regards
Guy

Stephan,
Maybe I need to look on the site to see how to file a ticket. This bike does have ABS. It is secured on a lift with the side stand up and in neutral, ignition on, and Kill switch in run position. I have cleaned the contacts GS011 interface on the bike. Maybe this is an issue with my GS911? Suggestions for next step?
Thanks,
Joel
