Eric: I’m an old fart who has to have to try all the various connection modes at least twice a year so I don’t forget how it all works. I also periodically review the YouTube videos by HexCode: (11) GS-911wifi - YouTube.

You can use the D2D mode when you’re away from Wi-Fi. It lets you do the diagnostic stuff on your iPhone, but you can’t do the fancy stuff, like resetting a service warning, etc.

You can use the regular Wi-Fi mode on your home Wi-Fi, or on the motel Wi-Fi when you’re on the road. Then you can reset your service warning, etc.

One thing to remember is that you must make sure the Wi-Fi setting on your iPhone is set to your GS-911 when you are in D2D mode, and that both your iPhone and your GS-911 are set to the same Wi-Fi when you are in the regular mode.

It gets real when you’re about three gin & tonics in and somebody rolls into to the motel parking lot from the nearby rally site, asking if you can reset their service warning. Or so I’ve heard… 😊

·      New GS-911 Wi-Fi Question - 3 Updates

<duc...@verizon.net>: Jan 05 06:34PM -0500

After years of fantastic service, I FINALLY turned in my original Bluetooth
GS911 for a shiny new Wi-Fi unit.

All seems as it should be via the USB interface with a PC with access to the
internet.

When testing with my iPhone via Wi-Fi I am not able to access any of the
service options. I can read the data, but the system says that device to
device interface without internet connectivity will not allow access to the
service modes.

As the phone is using the GS911 wi-fi for interface how do I go about
accessing the internet at the same time on the iPhone to allow access to the
service functions while away from the PC?

Many Thanks !

Eric

Hi Eric - I’ve done it on the road by doing the following:

1. Set up my iPhone as hotspot
2. Using pc/usb setup gs911 to use iPhone hotspot

As long as you don’t accidentally flip it to different wireless network or
accidentally press red button to make it its own hotspot then it works.

You can tell if you accidentally hit red button by bringing up wi-fi on
your iPhone - if you see gs911 it’s in “‘wrong” mode.

The easier approach is if you connect both iPhone and gs911 to a “common”
wifi router with internet access - like at a hotel. I’ve had 100% success
with that configuration. Maybe 75-80% success hotspotting the iPhone

Drop a note to Hexcode.za, who make the GS-911. I remember that's what I had to do when I upgraded. IIRC, there was a confusing bit in the instructions.

Thanks Alan,

I have the D2D operation down  but no matter how much time I spend I can not seem to get my iPhone to see the 911 when both are set to the same Wi-Fi in the regular mode or get the hot spot to work.    I will admit it has me stumped..
