Hi,
Problem has been intermittant until now. Its a 2010, last 10 digits of
the serial # 509ZV04277
Finally connected my GS911 and got the following information:
No fault codes were registered.

I tried to paste in the table, but what I see is reading title
followed by the actual value.
First value after the title is with ECU on, not running.
Second value is cranking. No second value indicates no change from
sitting.

Things that surprised me: fuel pump OFF, even when cranking, No change
in any readings switching from standard to race map.

Do these values raise any flags?
If not I will resort to the dealer (again).

Thanks,
Guy

Hi Guy

What is the mileage on the bike? If it's anything over 15k it could be
valve clearances.

Do a fuel pump test to hear if the pump is functioning or not. You should
be able to hear it cycling when you turn on the ignition though.

My bet would be on the clearances though.

Guy

Hi, Day off today so can't look up the build date from you chassis no.
There is a modified Exhaust camshaft + a free recall on some batteries!
Both relate to poor starting, check with your local dealer.

Regards ~Mike~

Thanks for the reply.
The milage is only about 3k. It has been like this since after only a
couple of rides, but seems to be getting worse, possibly indicating
valves. However, the service should have caught that (I'd hope).

I made an interesting discovery about the fuel pump: mine only runs
when the engine is turning! Is this right? If it isn't, shouldn't I
get an error code?
How do I find out?
Like you, I thought that it should start up and run for a few seconds
(until the shut-down whirring noise), but it doesn't.

Hi Mike,
The production date is Feb 2010. My dealer claims that there are no
outstanding service issues, and I admit that I couldn't find any
either.
My battery is kept on a trickler and seems fairly strong. I've never
abused it -much.

thanks for the reply.
I'll go see if I can find one on the showroom and test a theory about
the fuel pump...

The fuel pump should run long enough to bring the fuel pressure up when you first turn
on the key, then it turns off until the pressure goes down.
(Normally because you started the bike.)

This is not the case.
I suspected bad gas, so I emptied the tank. Being inclinded to
laziness, the easiest way I could come up with is to use the fuel pump
to pump the fuel out. So with the fuel line disconnected, I tried to
turn on the ignition with the headlight switch. Nothing.
So I prodded the starter, and the fuel flowed. But as soon as I let
go, nothing. There was no pressure buildup, because the line was
disconnected. I had to run the starter to pump the gas out of the
tank!

Not wanting to overheat the starter, kill the battery, etc.., it took
quite a while!

Has anyone else found this to be the case?

I can not say for sure- Re: the G450x. BUT- the F650GS bikes is just like
what you describe.
The pump run for only a very short while when you turn on the ignition, then
stop.
With the engine OR starter running it is pumping all the time.
