Subject: Using an Android tablet and a USB GS911

Hello group,

This is my first post as a new 911 owner.  I have downloaded  the downloader.exe file to my laptop and and was sucessful in operating the 911.  I am also under the impression that the 911 will also work on an android tablet or phone.

My question is how do I get that program to work on an andriod.  I understand downloader.exe is a windows program.  What to I have to do to work on my tablet?

Support was not any help as I spoke to them 3 times.  Thanks in advance.

Bill

You connect to the Android device via Bluetooth and not USB and you use the Android version of the software installed on the device.  If you didn't buy the Bluetooth version of the GS911 then it wont work.

For more information about how to download and install the android software, see http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/support/faq/does-it-run-on-my-android.  In particular you need to run the downloader on your Windows machine and it will then tell you how to download the android software.  You need the GS-911 plugged into the PC/Laptop with the usb cable to run the downloader.  Probably the best way is to use the provided url on your phone to download the apk file (installation file) direct to your android device and then install it.  You need to go into the settings, applications, to tell it to allow ‘other’ apps to be installed if you haven’t done that already.

Good luck – it works well once you have installed the software and got the android device to pair with the GS.

Also note the ‘BTclassUpdate.exe here’ bit on the page which tells you what to do if your device won’t pair with it (which some of them won’t, particularly some HTC devices but I won’t open up that old chestnut again)  _don’t buy a HTC!!!_  - sorry couldn’t help it L

What I did was emailed the url to the apk file to myself and then used my phone to open the file from my email. It was the easiest way, however I have a HTC phone which works with the GS911 intermittently.

Hi Bill
For my Android tablet, I first download the apk file to my pc, then saved the apk file to a thumb drive, then plugged my thumb drive into my tablet and launched the apk file directly. Once running, I used my tablet blue tooth connectivity to connect to the GS-911, same as my cell phone.

Hope this helps
Mark

Thanks Mark.  I cannot access the apk file from the downloader site.  I assume it is the android application but for some reason the downloader site doesn't offer it to me on my PC laptop or desktop.  Also, I have the enthusist USB 911 and I am told I cannot run the apk file on an android 4.1.1 Asus tablet even though it has a USB port.  I wonder why I cannot access the Android application from the downloader site.

hi Bill,

I just checked the Support tickets... you have a USB-only device... it does not have Bluetooth... hence you don't have ANY mobile device software listed when you run the GS-911downloder... as all the mobile versions require a bluetooth connection...

Pls see the comparison chart:
 http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/compare

best,
Stephan

"as all the mobile versions require a bluetooth connection..."

Given the increasing use of Android on tablets with a usb port, may connectivity via USB be added at some point?

Steve
