NASA engineers combined three segments from the raw audio file recorded while the Perseverance Mars rover rolled across a section of Jezero Crater on sol 16 of the mission. Sections 0:20-0:45, 6:40-7:10, and 14:30-15:00 were combined into this 90-second highlight clip. There has been processing and editing to filter out some of the noise.

LROC can capture detailed images of the lunar surface but has limited ability to photograph shadowed parts of the Moon that never receive direct sunlight, known as permanently shadowed regions. ShadowCam is 200-times more light-sensitive than LROC and can operate successfully in these extremely low-light conditions, revealing features and terrain details that are not visible to LROC. ShadowCam relies on sunlight reflected off lunar geologic features or the Earth to capture images in the shadows.
My sister and I sunk further into our seats as our mother's voice grew louder and more intense. We stared out the window at the road we had become so familiar with between our home and our grandma's- where our mom had been staying for the past three weeks. But we did not take in the nighttime surroundings we passed- the trees that had become shadows or the cars that came over hills as two spots of light. We only heard my mother's voice, angrier now than ever.
She kept talking, and while just seconds before all I could hear was her voice, it had turned into white noise. My focus and glazed over eyes were only on the shadows that were once trees, and the spots of light rounding corners and surmounting hills.
