Update Fingerprint Driver Windows 10

Ihave hp pavilion dv6-6c65sx laptop. I installed windows 11 64bit but the fingerprint is not working, Can someone help me with driver? because I didn't find it on support page and I remember one of community members gave me the driver for windows 10 and worked that time,

I chose "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" and then 4.4.234.0 driver

Now when I go to windows Hello it says swipe your finger and when I swipe to my finger it doesn't work and the light indicator is not working either.

Is there a new driver for windows 11 64bit?

This package contains the HP SimplePass Identity Protection Software for the supported notebook models and operating systems. This software protects identity information and account access using the computer owner's fingerprint.

If you see no unknown device and no fingerprint sensor in the device manager, then W11 doesn't recognize that the device even exists, and if having the fingerprint sensor work is a must-have for you, then you will have to go back to W10.

I upgraded from a Windows 7 install (not factory image) to Windows 10 and decided to try out the new build-in OS sensor support. On Win7 I didn't use it because it needed the HP tools installed and that was more bloat then i am comfortable with.. of course the problem is getting the drivers.. Windows seems to have installed a driver which is over 2 years old and doesn't even seem compatible with the OS fingerprint API. I'm not entirely sure whether Win10 is using the same one as Win7, but in any case, driver update didn't find a newer one which was compatible with the OS fingerprint features.

I downloaded and installed the version Lucadebe posted ( Removed link for error in link ). (Note that the installer does seem to dissapear all of a sudden, this is normal i think, it just adds the driver to windows, it won't actually update the device.)

2. use an older (but still relatively recent; a few months old) driver (from lenovo) which does support my sensor, but isn't certified as Win10 compatible. There are several versions to chose from here, although NONE from HP..

The first driver does list the newer VFS495 sensor (mine is VFS491), so i figured i'd force it and see if it works, rather than use a slightly older driver (also from Lenovo) not listed as Win10 compatible.

I went into device manager and opened the properties for the biometric sensor. On the driver tab i selected 'Update driver' -> 'Browse local dirvers' -> 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.

If you are using the HP provided driver it will by default have a driver selected from manufacturere 'Validity Sensors, Inc.'. They were acquired by Synaptics, so the new driver will be available under 'Synaptics FP Sensors'. I actually installed a number of newer drivers, but the one posted above should be listed as 'Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=003d)'. Select it and click next to install..

@PeerOne: I would get the driver from the HP site with the right driver match... IF HP actually bothered providing driver updates. As it is, the only recent drivers for the VFS491 are available through lenovo. I have the HP Softpaq manager installed.. while the application itself got an update for Win10, the only 'driver' still being updated through it is the BIOS. Everything else is ancient...

It saddens my that we have to rely on another manufacturer to provide us with drivers for HP products... Lenovo is still providing drivers for laptops that are older than mine, even drivers for newer operating systems..

Dude, there's NOT an "actual hardware site to ge the right driver match", did you ever tried to find it? That's why so much people is asking about that, because HP's site do not have the driver, neither the manufacturer.

Exactly, who hasn't this fingerprint reader can't even imagine how many driver issues we had after any windows major updates.

I just wanted to share a solution (after a single day since the release of W10).

For me, now it works even better than before (with W8.1).

Goodix Fingerprint sensor not working after windows 10 1903 update on my Dell G3 3579.It worked while installing windows 10 1903 via iso (which failed to update otherwise), windows hello was all good during setup but after first boot then it just stopped working & driver shows error code 31 on device manager.I tried updating everything & also tried reinstalling Goodix fingerprint driver but that didn't work either. The fingerprint worked fine on the previous 1809 update of windows 10.

I did a couple of things with a guy from nearest dell partner who provided me free technical support at their center, He guided me a little and I did a few things on my own. I don't know what fixed it but I'll go on chronologically.

First I downloaded a utility named UsbSafelyRemove and using this I stopped the power to the fingerprint sensor virtually without having to disconnect it, this removed it from devicemanager by preventing it from getting detected for current session. Then I uninstalled the sensor driver software and it was no longer detected aswell. Then I downgraded the bios using Dells Bios Tool, Meanwhile Microsoft or maybe Dell launched an un-logged/unscheduled automatic update and perhaps a possible patch for windows, I don't know if they did it or if it was windows on its own because it wasn't logged. I then restarted the computer, the sensor was detected and appropriate drivers were automatically installed, didn't check for error at this time. Then my antivirus software also found a simple PUP.Optional.OpenCandy malware, which shouldn't likely have any effect. I enabled Microphone for a skype call and just out of the blue the sensor error code 31 which I was checking for frequently, just disappeared. I have now upgraded my bios and the sensor still appears to work. I believe the miracle was due to the windows update most probably, just for reference I was on windows 10v.1909 before and even now, the update was minor a fix perhaps.I still don't know what caused the error 31, & which particular update fixed the conflict, was it dell support software which was continuously on or windows, but I'm pretty sure its fixed.Thanks to all those who helped for your time & support.

If you install legacy drivers on Windows 7 or later with Windows Biometric Framework, there is a chance that a future Windows Update could automatically replace the legacy driver with the WBF driver, which could cause your application to not work well. To avoid this possible problem, please be sure to update the SecuGen SDK dll, for example, sgfplib.dll (from FDx SDK Pro).

I frequently have the fingerprint reader stop working. My workaround is to open the device manager as administrator, uninstall the device (without deleting the driver) and scan for hardware changes.

It seems to be a driver issue, that the driver crashes.

Is there a fix planned?

I have found that none of the e6xxx latitudes are supported by dell for windows 10. I have had a myriad of issues with this line and windows 10. I have come to the conclusion that these will live on windows 7 until they die.

have you tried installing the driver in compatibility mode i havent tried it yet i have the same laptop with the same problem windows 10 lets me set up the finger print but i cannot log in using the reader it says finger print not recognized its a shame dell wont create a win 10 driver because these laptops are really good i have a ssd in mine

A few days ago I bought a new keyboard with the fingerprint recognition. I have attached the new keyboard to my Surface pro 3, the typing works, however, I am not able to set up the fingerprint recognition. When looking through the devices, the message "driver is unavailable" is visible under the device. I have everything updated and uninstalled & restarted (through devices and device manager) my computer several times.

Has anyone encountered the same problem or knows if I can download the driver separately on the internet?

For Windows 7 only: Install this after installing the WBF driver. The FMA is used to enroll and manage fingerprints within Windows Biometric Framework applications on Windows 7 only. (FMA is not needed for later versions of Windows because the enroll and manage functions are natively included in those versions of Windows.)
