Flyingtoday's high-performance singles and light twins often requires your full-time attention. That is where the P2 Audio Advisory System can help. It has been designed to be your full-time electronic "co-pilot" and is ideally suited for single-pilot operations in today's busy flying environment, VFR or IFR.
The system provides the pilot with AUDIO (it actually communicates with the pilot through the headset and/or speaker) and VISUAL (through an illuminated annunciator) advisories. It functions by continuously monitoring airspeed and other inputs and converts them into the appropriate audio messages. Whether you are busy studying an instrument approach plate, looking outside, or just conversing with your passengers, the system is watching over you.
The gear warning horn commonly found in most general aviation aircraft is usually mechanical and functions relative to throttle position. As the statistics clearly point out, that type of warning is often too late. According to an FAA Advisory Circular, over 30% of all landing accidents are still due to the fact that the landing gear was not extended. This type of accident can happen to anyone. It only takes a small distraction (especially if you fly single-pilot), and it's too late!
As for setup and configuration, three dip switch banks are located on the rear of the FlexAlert under a removable panel. At the time of installation, the dips are set (on or off) based upon which pre-existing annunciators have been installed in the aircraft. For fixed-gear aircraft, the landing gear dips are set to Off. As a result, when the Test button is pressed, the landing gear indicators will not illuminate, nor will the gear status alerts for Gear Up, Gear in Transit, Gear Warning and Seaplane Water Landing.
After selling his company Lake & Air to Wipaire, P2 Aviation technology founder Steve Petrich continued where the Amphibious Gear Advisory System (AGAS) model 9600 left off. Following his work in the early 1990s researching landing gear accidents and working closely with the NTSB on it, Petrich ultimately developed the 6600 Audio Advisory System, focusing on the retractable- gear general aviation aircraft. In addition to monitoring landing gear, it sported several new features aimed at high-performance retractable singles and light twins. The 6600 eventually evolved into the 6601 Audio Advisory System.
With an abnormal gear configuration, the annunciation repeats itself until the pilot cancels it by pressing the illuminated AAS annunciator light. The actual value is set at 10 to 15 knots (or MPH) above the final approach speed published in the POH. It can be adjusted up or down in 5-knot increments. The landing configuration airspeed threshold is set during installation and can be adjusted at any time.
For over 60 years, Wipaire has been engineering and manufacturing a full line of respected water floats for a wide variety of aircraft. It replaced the familiar model 9600 gear advisory system designed by Steve Petrich with the Laser Gear Advisory system, which is designed for amphibious float ops (although a failed 9600 can be replaced by the new Laser system fairly easily).
For more than five decades, active and dedicated aircraft owners and pilots have turned to AVIATION CONSUMER to answer their most important buying questions. This website contains many older reviews. Unless otherwise noted, these reviews carry product pricing from the time of the original review.
The No. 1 selling supplementary landing gear warning device for general aviation aircraft. The system functions by continuously monitoring airspeed and other inputs and converts them into the appropriate advisories (landing gear position, Vne and stall). It provides the pilot with both, audio (it actually communicates with the pilot through the headset and/or speaker) and visual (through an illuminated annunciator) advisories. Weighing in at only 14 ounces, the system has a negligible effect on a plane's useful load. In addition, it is a smart way to modernize an older aircraft without spending tens of thousands of dollars. The Audio Advisory System is backed by a 12-month warranty. For more information visit

Those who have operated trucks and machinery would agree that their dashboards can be confusing as there is often a high amount of warnings, lights and symbols. When one of these lights or alarms is activated it can often be a daunting process working out what it is trying to indicate.
The Audio Alert System prioritises input channels on installation and allows critical alarms to override lower priority messages. On each channel, the saved audio filename provides customised configuration, some of which include: positive or negative input triggers, the number of times the recorded message is repeated, message volume and a timed delay before triggering if required.
It features a wide 10 - 30 Volt input range enabling it to be used in both 12V and 24V vehicles. Hummingbird Electronics can also offer customised versions which can accept inputs from CAN bus, J1939 or RS485 system triggers.
With the partnership of other government agencies and local non-profit agricultural organizations, the following flyers were created to assist agricultural operators and employers in their Cal OSHA-required training regarding wildfire smoke prevention and the text/audio alert program.
The Ventura County Air Pollution Control District, in partnership with the County of Venturas County Executive Office, Agricultural Commissioner, and the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), a non-profit organization, have developed a first-of-its-kind text/audio alert system for farmworkers to alert the farmworker community when air quality reaches unhealthy levels in areas of Ventura County due to wildfire smoke. The text alert system will release air quality notifications to farmworkers and recommendations for N95 mask usage in real-time as the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaches 151 (unhealthy) and 501 (hazardous) due to wildfire smoke, consistent with the Cal OSHA regulations.
This text/audio alert system is designed to follow Cal OSHAs regulation in theCalifornia Code of Regulations, title 8, section 5141.1, which establishes AQI of 151 and 501 as the trigger points for when employers are required to provide N95 masks for voluntary and mandatory use, respectably. _1.html
No. This system is designed to alert you when air quality deteriorates due to wildfire smoke and the AQI values specified in the Cal OSHA regulation are exceeded in each day. If conditions persist the following day, you will receive another message.
It is your responsibility to determine when it is appropriate to no longer wear an N95 mask. We recommend checking the CARB Smoke Spotter or AirNow app for up-to-date air quality in your area.
CARB Smoke Spotter is a new app that offers a live aerial map view of all AQI stations in your region along with smoke locations and a 24-hr forecast.
CARB Smoke Spotter can be downloaded here: -air-resources-board-releases-california-smoke-spotter-2
AirNow is an EPA program that is designed to provide current air quality data as well as forecasted air quality data. You can use AirNow through a web browser (
www.airnow.gov) or through your mobile phone via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Once the AQI reaches 151 anywhere in Ventura County due to wildfire smoke, you will receive a text message. The text message will specify what cities are affected. Please verify if one of the affected cities is your location.
In addition, you should use common sense. Often you will see or smell wildfire smoke before the AQI reaches 151. Although the regulation only requires employers to provide N95 masks at an AQI of 151, it can be a good idea to wear one at lower levels to reduce your exposure, especially if you have medical conditions such as asthma or heart problems, etc.
If in the future you decide to re-subscribe to the text/audio alert system, make sure to text UNSTOP to
855-522-0034. If you do not do this step, your phone will continue to block messages from the number.
This is the same process for both the English and Spanish text options. These are automated messages that we cannot change or translate into Spanish.
