let's say i have i have a service that will send a stream of protobuff messages

i'd like to have a client that won't automatically marshal those messages, but will just give me that byte array (let's say i wanted to write them to a file along with some meta data)
and then be able  to parse them with regular protobuff api

assuming you are using java (according to past questions)

yes, at least java it is possible. good starting point is following the json blog post

it uses custom marshaller to handle json format. in your case, modify the marshaller to write to a file.
