Hello,

We are trying to build the grpcio and grpcio_tools packages from source in our docker container image builds, and have noticed that the packages are enormous when doing that compared to installing with the wheel.

Is there a way to get the .so files smaller when building from source? Also, the main reason for building from source is concern about manylinux wheels bundling outdated version of important libraries like libssl, etc. Is that a valid security concern?

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken the binary wheels will include boringssl linked statically and won't use old libssl.
