Old Florida Seed and Story Swap!
Seed Swap, Story Telling, Garden Demos and Live Music!
March 26, 2016, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
Saturday of Easter Weekend
Join us at Morningside Nature Center Living History Farm for our Old Florida Seed and Story Swap, presented by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department with our partners at Forage Farm. This free event focuses on the preservation of our precious agricultural heritage and diversifying your own garden by bringing your seeds to swap with others in our gardening community (Please, no live plants, seeds older than 5 years or seeds from invasive exotics). No seeds to swap? Well, come on down anyway and meet your fellow gardeners while enjoying our historic farm including the one-room schoolhouse, log cabin, and barnyard!
When you’re done swapping, stay and share your own seed, garden, and farm stories and listen to others tell their favorite tales! The Conch, Gainesville’s First True Storytelling Project, will facilitate an hour-long round of storytelling from 11 a.m. to noon, but the tales won’t tell themselves! So bring a yarn to spin in exchange for a free pack of seeds. There will also be hands-on gardening demos in our Heirloom Kitchen Garden and live old timey music by Jay Gimelli and his band Pure & Simple, to set the mood. Food will not be available for purchase but you are welcome to bring your own and enjoy your vittles on the farm!
